Ian7 Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 (edited) SOLD. thx Edited November 29, 2014 by Ian7
AndyB Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 I'd grab it if it had clamshells.... ;-) And a twin cam
Kitcat Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 The first se7en I ever seriously considered buying had been built by an engineer here in Cincy. After my (never to be forgotten) test drive, he showed me this same little model Caterham. And, I think he said he'd spent more time building the model than assembling his Caterham, tho I was so addled after my test drive I may have that wrong:).
Ian7 Posted November 22, 2014 Author Posted November 22, 2014 ...I think he said he'd spent more time building the model than assembling his Caterham.... absolutely true in my case :-) and nearly went blind from all those TINY screws LOL
AndyB Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 it's a BDR twin cam What's that, there's another twin cam beside the iconic Lotus Twin Cam?
Ian7 Posted November 23, 2014 Author Posted November 23, 2014 Lotus Twin Cam was a 1558cc Cosworth did the iconic BDA 1600 race engine, and a milder street version called the BDR (R for road as I understand it)
alpinaturbo Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Yeah.... Thanks Ian Looking forward to see it in the metal.
Peahioi Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 (edited) Please don't think me rude but, if you don't mind, What did you get for this??? I only ask because I recently bought the same one as a still boxed (opened only) kit for $350 from a local seller (and done face to face) rather than one of the offerings on E-Bay that are up for, upwards of, $500 And from the Orient, through questionable(?) sellers. Thanks for your co-operation, Dave Henry San Jose', Calif. e-m: Peahioi@aol.com Edited February 7, 2015 by Peahioi missing word..
NVP66S Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 What's that, there's another twin cam beside the iconic Lotus Twin Cam? Actually, the engine in my '72 Elan had *three* cams. When Lotus took the Kent motor and added the twin cam head, they kept the pushrod cam to run the distributor (and fuel pump IIRC).
super7guy Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Yes, even my Ford alloy block, M721F, has provisions for a full length cam for the fuel pump and distributor or jack shaft for just the distributor. As I understand, the later BDP alloy blocks were different and did not provide for the fuel pump. A rare block indeed carried over in my luggage. Wayne
