TurboWood Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Good news first, the engine arrived :hurray:. Unfortunately, the first step is complete disassembly to have the block modified :cuss:. The oil filter adapter which is cast into the block has some interference with the pedal box and is very likely to be a pain during engine install. So, what is everyone using for an engine stand? In an effort to buy 'merican (please ignore that I bought a Cat) I searched the internet high and low for local options. Here is what I found: - Norco 78100 - $290 - CM products - $480 - Fold up engine stand (Merrick) - $7xx - Gray ES-1000 - $942 I'm struggling with the cost of the Norco (the others are crazy). Norco sells a Chinese version of the same part (7800i) for $90 less. I could find no mention of relative quality. Has anyone found a local option that isn't expensive for welded tubing? I'm also hoping to borrow an engine hoist. Anyone have one near Loveland, CO that I can borrow? Daniel
xcarguy Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Harbor Freight engine stand. Doesn't get any cheaper and I've used these for years with no issues: http://m.harborfreight.com/750-lb-engine-stand-69887.html I have a HF engine hoist that I've been using for fourteen years. Still works great: http://m.harborfreight.com/1-ton-capacity-foldable-shop-crane-69512.html
CASwede Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Craigslist. Buy it for $60. Sell it for $70 when you're done. Buy it/sell it again when you need it. Same with engine hoists.
bsimon Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Daniel, I still have the harbor freight engine stand that Alaskossi used sitting in my Conex. It's right here in Loveland. You are welcome to borrow it for as long as you need it. Send me a PM and we can make arrangements. -Bob
scannon Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 I have both an engine stand and a hoist you are welcome to borrow, not as close as Bob but not too far away in Erie.
TurboWood Posted December 16, 2014 Author Posted December 16, 2014 Thanks guys. Skip, I'll let you know about the hoist. I think I have a closer solution. Daniel
