BusaNostra Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I have a disc brake caliper that has no hand brake unit. Is it possible to connect or fit a hand brake kit to the caliper? Do you know anyone who sells a kit to make this work? I have the hand brake lever & the cable but no mechanism to push/pull the caliper to the rotor
xcarguy Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Try Lokar: http://www.lokar.com/product-pgs/ebrake-cables-conn-cables/ebrake-cable-main.html
scannon Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 You can add a second, mechanically actuated caliper from Wilwood or others to each rotor or replace your caliper with one that has the actuator already integrated with the main caliper. I suppose you could also rig a small master cylinder to the brake handle and plumb it into the rear brake lines.
BusaNostra Posted February 26, 2015 Author Posted February 26, 2015 Thanks guy --- Yeah I saw that in wilwood -- something like this? http://www.wilwood.com/Calipers/CaliperProd.aspx?itemno=120-1360 I cannot use a hydraulic system -- DMV wants it separate emergency hand brake. Lokar is nice too but that's only the cable and the hand lever. I need the system at the caliper.
xcarguy Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 . . . . I need the system at the caliper. Busa, how about a photo of the caliper?
BusaNostra Posted February 26, 2015 Author Posted February 26, 2015 Yeah...I will take a picture sometimes --- darn snows here....7 feet shit
jimrankin Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I'm using the Wilwood unit and it works fine. I did have to add a spring right at the caliper that compresses when you activate the brake to make the pad activating system retract when you release the handbrake. if you don't it won't hurt anything but you get this "scratching' sound for a while after the brake is released until the pads stop rubbing the disc.

Good....mine also a Wilwood brake -- where did you buy the spring? From Wilwood? I don't know the Wilwood brake part # but I will remove my tire and identify it.....then call Wilwood -- thxs
HOTTTCAR Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I picked my cable up at Napa. The spring was built into the cable assembly. Here is a pic. http://www471.pair.com/stalkerv/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=17547 gale
jimrankin Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I just picked up a spring at the local hardware store that fit the space I had. I'll see if I have a photo anywhere. It just fits between the actuating lever of the brake and the cable cover end mount. Does the same thing as the cable end in hotttcars photo but I was using a cable that I shortened to fit and no spring end attached.
