iluvlotus Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 i looked up the serial number for a 1995 caterham- what is package 21? it also says ordered as a 'race" chassis
iluvlotus Posted April 25, 2015 Author Posted April 25, 2015 i typed in serial number on a site called Lotus 7 club italia
super7guy Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 requires 17 digit VIN for sevens after 1990. http://www.lotus7club.it/en/resources/120-caterham-chassis-number-decoder Wayne
Croc Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 I prefer this chassis number guide since it gives you the possible alternatives. I think you have pulled in the first digit of the chassis VIN (digits 11 to 17) as Package 2 is a Series 3 kit. http://www.lotus7.club/guides/frequently-asked-questions/chassis-numbers-what-do-they-mean#h10
iluvlotus Posted April 25, 2015 Author Posted April 25, 2015 The car i am buying has vin number sdkllkrgss0347700 it comes up as a 1995 with package 21 however this is a Caterham 7 im confused! please if anyone knows how to interprete it would be appreciated Thank you
Croc Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Using the link I posted earlier... SDK = Caterham as manufacturer L = LHD L = Long cockpit K = Kit built R = Generally race chassis but sometimes also referred to road chassis depending on year GS = 100bhp 1600 crossflow S = chassis year 95 0347700 = chassis number. Did you drop a digit as it should be 8 digits if it was a 90s era chassis? Thats its for your chassis. No package reference as it is a pre-2010 chassis.
iluvlotus Posted April 25, 2015 Author Posted April 25, 2015 Not sure- it does have 17 digits - i only see title not the actual vin plate on car. Yes it is a race car spec but set-up for both track and street- I thank you very much for taking the time out to research!
coffee break Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Where is the number located? My 1995 has an ID plate and the chassis number is also stamped on the chassis on a gusset near where the clutch cable is attached.
iluvlotus Posted April 26, 2015 Author Posted April 26, 2015 great info- Im sure others also find this helpful!
