jtminehart
I've been a long time autocrosser and decided to sell my '07 MX-5 and build a Stalker AXR at the end of last year. I was looking for something fast and fun that could be competitive in Autocross, be fun at the Track, and be street legal. My brother, Scott, builds the Stalkers and I had driven my Dad's M-Spec a few times over the past few years. I've been wanting to move up to a Stalker pretty much ever since I drove the M-Spec on an Autocross course. With the new AXR chassis, it seemed like a great time to jump in on the fun. I'm not much of a "builder", but I love driving, racing, tweaking and testing. The new car went together pretty quickly working in Scott's shop in Florida (I probably slowed him down a little), but turned out great. Development has been going pretty well and I've had some successful big events already this year. The car is showing pretty good potential, and it's great to have a couple other people out there running the same chassis to compare notes with. I went with a stock LS1 (from a GTO), T56 transmission and CTS rear end. In race trim with the slicks it weighs about 1680# (our minimum weight for the class is 1850 with driver). The car drives surprisingly like a regular car (a very fast one!). I thought the light weight and high power would be a handful, but the car just sort of does what you want it to do. Of course, getting 100% out of it and running a perfect autocross run isn't easy, but it's not like anytime you get on the gas, the car just spins out. So far its been great fun to autocross and I'm excited about developing the car a little more, and seeing how competitive it can be at Nationals. I'm also looking forward to doing some track events and getting some experience on the road courses. I'll try and get some pictures and videos up on here soon! Scott said you guys had a great weekend up in GA, especially on Saturday; your latest yahoo post suggests the same. Shane  Yeah the car is getting there. I've got some videos from the ProSolo event I did in Mineral Wells: If you haven't done a ProSolo, I highly recommend it. the drag race start (with reaction times) and mirror courses are a cool twist on standard Autocross format. Main thing we are doing is trying to work out the understeer in the slow corners. The current setup gives us very stable high speed handling through slaloms and such, but in the tight stuff, it just kind of washes out. We're working on how the rear toe dynamics work to see if that solves the problem. Right now, it's toeing in under compression, and so we are looking to get it back to neutral and see how that effects the handling. If the toe dynamics doesn't solve it, then we'll probably go back to rear spring rate. But the Toe adjustment is easy stuff so its a good next step since we just made a rear spring adjustment. degoetz
Welcome to the site. Great to have another person working to make the Stalker AXR the best it can be. Going to the Utah Match tour in Farmington at end of the month, will have a chance compare against some other E-mods maybe even Kiesel , he did make the last Utah Match Race in ST George.
