rikker
I was wondering if any one has tried using a mesh wind blocker on a 7, seems like that using mesh to fill in the rectangle between the roll bar might work as n easy way to cut down air turbulence. On another note does any one know of side mirrors that will fit on a Caterham that will not foul the little perspex aero screens or the side doors? Croc
Yes. I started with the Soft Buts for Sevens wind blocker but felt it could be improved on. I then found a lady selling mesh wind blockers on Fleabay and bought that for $10. You can sort of see it attached to my roll bar in this photo. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/May%202011/DSC_5478_edited-1.jpg The mesh blocker is better than the SBFS version and does cut down buffeting. It is mesh with a double edging to which lots of little velcro tabs then wrap around the roll bar. It also noticeably cuts down on water getting flung on to the back of your neck when driving on a wet road. As for the mirrors, I have the Spa carbon (effect...not really) look attached to the windscreen. Caterham USA had little metal adapters that allow the Spa mirrors to be screwed onto the windscreen frame and not impact the perspex deflectors. Have you bought another seven? rikker
Mike, Thanks for that info, all looks great on your car, is that an SV? Yes, well almost, I keep dilly dallying on the damned thing, have to have it late at night after a few bevies then the next morning not so sure ( actually was a similar situation with my ex) The older I get the more hesitant I become, you should see me buying clothes. Do you by chance have a contact for the mesh lady? Thanks a lot.
rikker
That is an achingly beautiful 7 you have there.
Croc
The contact details for the lady are here - Alaskossie also asked. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/showthread.php?6281-Croc%92s-new-CSR-Superlight&p=53783#post53783 Also have a search by wind blocker. There are a few threads on it over the years. Alas, my car now has patina - stone chips, a little dirty because I have not washed it for a month, etc. but I love it all the same. I believe you should drive cars rather than make it a concours sculpture never driven. A seven especially so. None of my cars are show ponies - they have lavish mechanical care, a full detail once a year but I don't try to touch up their driving scars. I know all about the dilly dallying. I am doing the same on some of my car projects right now.... But my prevailing view is life is not a dress rehearsal - go do it!
Blokko
I had the SBFS draught excluder and I was a bit nonplussed with it. I didn't notice much / any reduction in wind buffeting, but the wife swore that it made an improvement for her. I'll echo what Mike said about water ingress. For some reason my SV seemed to get a lot more water thrown into the cabin than was the case with my old S3. The draught excluder seemed to cut down a bit on water being thrown up from the back end of the car. I'm a SBFS fan boy, having also owned a RE bag, a car cover and a saddle bag. I picked up my draught excluder second hand for a knock down price - it is the one piece of SBFS kit that I probably would have resented paying full price for. I'd try Mike's suggestion of a DIY project first. I think someone has also put photos and instructions on lotus7.club with details of their home brew draught excluder (whether it made it through the migration from BlatChat is another matter....) Sean
...(whether it made it through the migration from BlatChat is another matter....) The old BlatChat remains search-able in its previous state. Just go to http://213-04.com/searchsp.asp and populate the appropriate fields as before, being sure to change the two relevant pull-down boxes, and then your aunt Roberta will have successfully completed gender reassignment surgery. Wind deflector? Aeroscreen! edit -- Your car does look really good in that photo, Mike. Edited September 19, 2015 by Sean
Blokko
Sean - you have made my day! I wasn't aware that the old site remained in an archive state. So I'm now on a nostalgia kick browsing through old posts (in glorious orange) and being able to click on links that still work :-) Is there any issue with me publicising this link elsewhere (FaceBook)? No disrespect to the L7Club MT, but I think I'd have just started Lotus7.Club afresh and kept the old site as an archive to refer back to - would have saved a load of cost and hassle in terms of porting the posts across to the new system. Hindsight is a wonderful thing though - I'm sure the company who did the work would have said that they could do it, no problemo....
Croc
Well done Sean - brilliant tip. I have been cursing the loss of search on Blatchat. Is there any issue with me publicising this link elsewhere (FaceBook)? I would not put on the new Blatchat - they will take down the old site if they know we know. I'm sure the company who did the work would have said that they could do it, no problemo.... Usual IT promises - they always seem to turn a perfectly good orgy into a clusterf$%%....oh wait...you are IT!
Sean
Is there any issue with me publicising this link elsewhere (FaceBook)? Steve - I didn't think about that before. So I just posted it there, just now. I don't see why L7C MT would have issue with it, as that's the whole point of it, right? edit -- I learned of the current use of 213-04 as a knowledge repository through a thread on the new L7C forum. I hope posting it to FB doesn't cause any issues!? Edited September 19, 2015 by Sean

Blokko
Back to the original question, and as luck would have it the same topic is being discussed on New BlatChat - here.
