papak
I am pulling my hair out trying to get the wiring harness in my Birkin connected to everything. I didn't care for the plastic rocker switches and swapped them out for Lucas toggle switches (a more classic look as well). Basically, there is no master wiring diagram. Everything is broken out by component. The color coding follows a strategy that I have yet to figure out. Additionally, there are a number of circuits that I am not using (heater, seat belt warning, etc.). Poor Tom Carlin. I must have made a hundred calls to him for clarifications. He has been wonderfully patient but I am seriously considering replacing the entire harness with one from Painless Performance. I have wallowed around for a couple of months trying to get everything to work. I need to move on. Anyone have any experience with Painless? wemtd
I think Slomove replaced his harness with a Painless one (or made his own) these diagrams were on the net at one time. If you PM me your e-mail I can send you the wiring diagrams i've got and see if i can help. cheers P.
Kitcat
Don't later Birkins all use the Painless wiring system? As I (vaguely) recall, the previous system was buggy and difficult to correctly install/manage. And, as I also (vaguely) recall, many older Birkins had their troublesome wiring replaced w/Painless as an upgrade by their owners.
MightyMike
Something to consider... http://infinitybox.com/can-bus-system-products/ I put the 20 circuit harness into my old Birkin - definitely overkill. My Storker has the 10 circuit harness; much better.
slomove
Yes I replaced the harness with the Painless (the one with the small fuses, IIRC this one). I have the schematic, the wiring table and the fuse layout attached. This is my first version, still using the ignition key switch. Later I modified that for a starter button and a pluggable code key. But I did that maybe 12 years ago and forgot some details. Don't get scared if it looks like this for a while: When you are done it can be like that: HarnessTable.pdf SlomoveWiring.pdf FuseLayout.pdf Edited February 15, 2016 by slomove
papak
I'm not quite as bad off as the first picture but would like to end up like the second. That is definitely NOT going to happen with the factory harness. One more call to Carlin tomorrow. Beautiful work!
