bball7754
This isn't for my Seven, but it is for a Crossflow - on my Mallock. I've had a small coolant leak somewhere around the thermostat housing. Since that portion of the engine is exposed, the coolant gets pushed around everywhere. I pulled the housing off (it also has a swirl pot attached) and there was quite a bit of corrosion and what seemed like poor gasket and sealant. Do you think a new gasket and sealant will seal correctly?
mrmustang
Do you think a new gasket and sealant will seal correctly? Any chance you have, or no someone with a fixed base belt sander that you could use to smooth that surface a bit? if it was me, I would not use that without at least a quick sand down. Maybe bring it to a metal working shop if you have to
rx7locost
I'd sandblast the surface to clean out the rust. Then use a small amount of JB Weld to fill the pits. And sand flat using a sheet of sandpaper on a pane of glass (with a bit of water under the sandpaper). That should show a combination of the base metal and the JB. bball7754
Thanks, that's what I thought but have been in denial. Called an engine machine shop today and asked if they could mill it flat and remove the corrosion. Said it was too small to do that. I think they just weren't interested in such a small job. Guess I'll try some other shops.

scannon
As bad as that part looks inside I think you need to do some serious cooling system flushing. If the water jackets have that much rust on them heat transfer is going to be badly affected.
NVP66S
Don't know what the machine shops would charge, but you can buy that belt sander for 80 bucks. http://www.harborfreight.com/4-inch-x-36-inch-belt-6-inch-disc-sander-97181.html and at the end you will still have the tool.
