Constant brake light

coffee break

Recommended Posts

When I got back from https://www.atlantabritishcarfayre.com/ I noticed one of the brake lights was on. This tells me I have at least two problems to solve.

1) Why is the light on

2) Why only one

I've got the factory wiring diagram to look at and a Simpson meter to probe with.

As to the bulb that wasn't lit, by visual inspection it looks good. The next place I will be looking is the wiring just inside the rear wing, it was damaged and I wrapped some tape around that area.

Any suggestions on testing the pressure switch and is it in direct contact with brake fluid?

Thanks y'all

Carl

Do both lights come on when you press the brake pedal? One on and one off or one bright and one dim usually means a ground problem.

Not sure about your Caterham but all of them I have inspected use a push button switch on the brake linkage under the pedal cover.

Paul great find at Auto Zone! And $9.69 to boot.

Carl, Swap brake bulbs and see if the one is burned out. Most likely it is what others are saying, the brake light switch need to be replaced or adjusted/tightened, remove the peddle box cover unplug the brake light switch and see if it goes out. Somethings the jam nuts that locate the switch come loose and that is the problem, simply set it and tighten the jam nuts.

Boy was I wrong. :iamwithstupid: The brake lights work fine with the ignition ON, ignition off, no. The light I observed as on was the tail light. I discovered the light switch was in the middle position, ie "running lights". The reason for the single light being on is yet to be determined. The bulb and socket are fine, so some where further up stream the voltage gets lost.
