I noticed that Grassroots Motorsports car mag matched Keith Tanner's $10K Lowcost against the megabuck Ariel Atom at the race track. According to the October '07 issue it was no contest: Lowcost 1, Atom 0. Congrats Keith!

Also noticed that it's possible to rent Bruton Stalkers for trackdays at VIR. Go to www.rent-a-racer.net for details. Seems like a great way for a person to find out if its their cup of tea, before taking the plunge.

I really don't like the Atom. Mostly because it gets so much press as a Se7en alternative. But try and price one out built, with all the fun options. It ain't cheap. And then, try and get it registered in some state like NJ that requires a full windshield. Uh, I don't think so.

Oh, and IIRC, no Atoms successfullly posted hot laps at the GRM/UTCC. I overheard someone saying something about the winged car being mildly uncontrollable at speed.

The Atom that was in the UTCC had a wheel bearing failure at the end of the morning warmup but was running well up until then. I guess they could not get the car fixed for the timed sessions. We were running close to each other on the track during that session. I could pull away a little in the twisty bits, but his HP made up that distance and more on the front straight. Apparenty, horsepower IS important...

But not all horsepower is created equal. My 148 rwhp car has pulled away from "230 hp" Caterhams and the 300 hp Atom couldn't lose it. So it's not the quantity of the horses that count, it's the quality :)

Maybe it is the fact that my engine puts out just under 80 ft-lbs of torque. :nopity:
