Anker Posted June 20, 2021 Posted June 20, 2021 I am about to check the front wheel alignment on my 87 Supersprint 1700. When I look at the steering rack and wheel carrier it is not clear how the adjustment is made. On my Porsches you loosen the lock nut and then turn the rod that connects the steering rack to the ball joint on the wheel carrier, but there isn't a good place to put a wrench on the rod, so I am confused about how to make small adjustments to the toe-on. What am I missing?
Elise111 Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 Mine turned by hand, but I imagine that a rubber strip with pliers might work too since there are no wrench flats. Pete
11Budlite Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 I think most of the time the steering rack boot is fastened to the inner tie rod by a cable tie. If that is keeping the inner tie rod from turning easily you can cut the cable tie, make your adjustments, and then replace the cable tie when you're done.
