Maverick1
Regarding the 7 forum format. I was wondering if you guys would like a feature added to this forum which is on the Atom forum. The feature is the word "New" which appears right beside a thread that you have not yet read. If you have read all the posts of a certain thread if you go onto the forum the next day and there has been another post added to the thread it will say "New" in color. It is a great feature because it lets you know when there is something new to read. Just a suggestion. Cheers™

No worries mate. You've got a great site. I just thought it might be a simple addition. Cheers™

I just thought it might be a simple addition. Cheers™ no prob... I actually just finished the mod. but then I realized... I think all new posts since your last visit get http://localhost:2188/themes/yafvision/icon_newest_reply.gif as opposed to this http://localhost:2188/themes/yafvision/icon_latest_reply.gif Were you guys asking for something different? What I'm doing in the code now is to make the topic bold if there has been a reply since last visit.
slngsht
slngsht, what forum software do you use for this site? An open source asp.net forum called YetAnotherForum
xflow7
Mazda, The two symbols you put in two posts up aren't showing up in the post for some reason, but if they are a dark blue envelope and a faded blue envelope, then yes that already functions as a "new posts" indicator (at least for me). slngsht
Oh yeah... since I'm on the forum most of the time I don't notice these things
WestTexasS2K
slngsht, if I sign in then any new response has a dark blue folder any old post with no new responses show up light blue. So dont break your back putting in a indicator. Maverick you should just need to sign in when visit the forum. This should let you know any new topics. Slngsht thank you so much for all you support on this site. I know it is alot of work to keep this thing running and it is greatly appreciated. I think that we should have a donation button where we can go to paypal account and deposit some money to help pay for the overhead. The expense grows proportionate to the membership. Hybrid Z had to do this a few years back and it was not a problem for most of the members. They just put up a thread saying that the funds are getting low and people will donate 5-10 bucks. I know I would certainly be up for that. What does everyone else think?

The way we're trying to pay for this stuff is through the membership fees, and we're trying to do that as part of registering for events like the 7/7/7 and PNW Tour. Our forum is small enough that a few hundred bucks a year covers the hosting, and my time is... free. My reward is watching the community grow, and meeting alot of great folks.
Maverick1
slngsht, if I may be so bold as to invite you to check out the Atom forum and see what I mean about the blue "New" tag. http://forum.atomclub.com/index.php/board,24.0.html It makes navigating through the forum so easy because it shows you right away what topic has new posts. Anything that makes life easier can't be a bad thing. Cheers™
slngsht
I see, so the functionality is there, but the icons don't quite stand out - I think that's what you're saying. I can fix that by replacing the dark blue envelope with something more prominent that still fits the theme.
Titus
The "New Posts" function I have used on other forums is basically handled as a search that returns a page with all of the new posts. Since you already have a way of identifying them (as you are bolding them), you would just need to work the identifier code in with the search code.
Al N.
The active posts are also listed in a box on the bottom right part of the screen of the main page....
Titus
The active posts are also listed in a box on the bottom right part of the screen of the main page.... Yep... I have been using that, but if there have been posts to more than 7 threads since you're last visit, you miss some.

Maverick1
The way the "New" posts work on the Atom site is, you click on the "New" icon and it takes you to that thread and onto the newest post that you have not yet read. cheers
