jimmylukeii
I am at the end of the build (hopefully( and am charging the 30 ah Banner wet battery with a 1 amp trickle charger. Being a complete novice, I turned to Google, who tells me that it should take 30 hours to charge (1 amp charger and 30 ah capacity). I put it on the charger last night around 7 pm. Wake up this morning, disconnect the charger, and check around 8am. My multimeter reads 13.3 volts. Again, Google tells me I want to be in the 12's for a fully charged battery. What is going on here? Is the battery fully charged? Edited May 1, 2022 by jimmylukeii
MV8
I think all Banner batts are AGM type and should have an automatic battery tender for AGM. I'm sure Banner has all the info you need on their site. It should bleed down as soon as it is loaded or on it's own. Also, don't leave trickle chargers to charge all the time. You didn't say what the volts were before you started charging. You didn't say what the volts were before you started charging. I think it was wet rather than AGM - I had to add battery acid. Volts were presumably 0 when I started - it came to be bone dry, I added the battery acid per Banner instructions, and then put it on the trickle charger overnight. MV8
In that case, I would not worry about your meter showing more than the batt should be capable of. Could be time for a new meter though.

IamScotticus
please give the battery information. Did you happen to weigh it with the acid added? Edited May 1, 2022 by IamScotticus
CarlB
I was under the impression fully charged batteries should measure between 13.3 and 13.7 volts when fully charged.
IamScotticus
14V is good. Not good from your alternator, but OK from the battery.

Individual cells, lead acid, fully charged, 2.2vdc but collectively with the internal resistance is more like 12.8vdc. Running is a minimum of around 13.2vdc at the terminals if the alternator and wiring can keep up with the load. Regulators can allow over 15vdc in some cases and newer cars move the regulation to the ecu.

I did not weigh it with acid, but it cannot be more than 20 pounds. Very light. Battery seems to be working well so far (15 miles or so around the neighborhood). Of course, time will tell. Even if it lasts a year, I don't care too much given that it is relatively inexpensive. The battery is Banner #53034. Specs are here: https://batteryfactory.co.uk/products/53034-banner-caterham-car-battery-12v-30ah.
