Vinman1 Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 Hope all are enjoying summer. Soon to be test fitting engine & trans. Looking for a part # or source for a transmission mount. V
MV8 Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 Do you have an old one to compare it to? I think it is probably mk1 or 2 cortina: https://www.burtonpower.com/gearbox-mount-ford-cortina-mk1-mk2-gb2e400.html
Vinman1 Posted August 11, 2022 Author Posted August 11, 2022 Unfortunately, I do not have an old one. Burton has several listed but none specify Seven.
MV8 Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 (edited) A photo of the bottom of the tail housing of your transmission might help. Is it two bolt holes or one in the center? A photo of the tunnel area where the mount would bolt-in would help too. I would expect to see a single hole in the belly pan to access a single bolt to attach the chassis mounted mount to the transmission. The mount may still be bolted in from the inside of the tunnel. Vinman1 Posted August 11, 2022 Author Posted August 11, 2022 Here is the mount area in the tunnel. The trans is at the builders and I don't have a pic of the mount area, but the Pinto mount that was on it used a single bolt in the center
7Westfield Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 Burton has 2 mounts that I looked at when putting a T-9 in my Westfield GBT9400 is listed for T9, but was wider than the tunnel I went with GB2E400, same basic unit but narrower How far apart are those mounting holes? dimensions are on Burton website
Vinman1 Posted August 11, 2022 Author Posted August 11, 2022 I will measure and compare to Burton specs. Have three orders currently with them, and figured I might find one this side of the pond before I place a 4th. Best, V
MV8 Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 (edited) The flange is offset on the type 9 mount. I think it is the one I linked to; GB2E400 (MT8162). Just went through a catalog I have and put this pic together on the rocket Type E and Type 9 mounts with the applications and dimensions. Notice the GBT9400 (MT8163) requires a large pocket below the mounting flange but both stick up 45mm. Edited August 11, 2022 by MV8
Vinman1 Posted September 1, 2022 Author Posted September 1, 2022 MV8, Thank you for taking the time to clear up. Got the 8162 mount and just got the Trans back this week. Will be test fitting this weekend. 1

Got the 8162 mount and just got the Trans back this week. Will be test fitting this weekend. MT8162 is the standard For escort and Sierra boxes. Keep in mind you may need to adjust the drive line angle to match the diff at the final ride height. The mount is where you will do this with a spacer, if needed. Another idea to work in is is a retention collar around the front drive shaft joint to capture the grease that slings, protect it from dirt, and capture the shaft if it breaks loose. That thing slinging around at speed can do a lot of damage. Edited September 3, 2022 by IamScotticus
Vinman1 Posted September 4, 2022 Author Posted September 4, 2022 Great advice. Drive shaft hoops from drag days was on my mind, given the proximity and just aluminum panel, Arch tunnel reinforcement around it. They make one that is a heavy cable type for Corvettes, that I can adapt, but need something wider to capture grease.
Vinman1 Posted September 12, 2022 Author Posted September 12, 2022 8162 Mount fits the trans and frame fine. Will check pinion angle when I get the Engine & driveshaft back...
