michollock
So I am in the market for another car. I am debating between a very early porsche 911 or a seven. I have driven and been in several early 911s but never in a seven. As you all know sevens are quite rare. I was wondering if there is anyone out there in the greater bay area that would not mind giving me a quick ride in their seven so I could get a quick of what the ride is like. Please shoot me an email at michollock@yahoo.com if you think you may be able to help me with this decision. Thank you all and I hope to be a contributing member one day when I get my seven!!! -Michael:cheers:
slngsht
Welcome aboard. 911 is a fine car. Seven is a way of life  I'd give you a ride, but I'm near the wrong bay (Chesapeak Bay - DC area). If you're ever here on business or something, there are plenty of examples of various sevens you can get a ride in. I'm sure one of the California peeps will chime in. slomove
Rare? Well, kind of but there are dozens in the bay area. I am in SoCal, so little help but there will be volunteers close-by, no doubt about it. Maybe you go to Thunderhill or Buttonwillow NASA racetrack events in October and get a ride there. Al N.
michollock - I was in your shoes about 6 years ago. I swore I would buy either a V-12 Ferrari (the cheaper kind), a Mondial (I happen to love the lines and the 4 seat capacity), a 356 (the 62 B S90, preferably), or a 67-73 911 (pref a 67, 69, or 73). But then, on the way back from a family trip to DC, my wife let me swing past Mid-Atlantic Caterham to test drive an SV. And from the second the guy pulled out on to the road and I said "you don't have to kill me, you know"...I was hooked. Early 911s are great, classic shape, Steve McQueen fantasy cars. I also like the fact that buying an older one keeps you out of "trade it in for a new model" cycle. But a Seven is really a different matter. If you truly enjoy driving and pure road feel, there will be no other for you. Some reading you might find informative... MHKflyer52
Al, That is a very good description and story of how you came to have possession of fine "7". I have to agree with your wife’s comment that anything else would leave you wanting a "7" but you know that now as most of us due know besides you can always buy one of the other cars for another toy to have if your wife will buy off on it. By the way you should write more as you seem to have a knack for it.

Kitcat
My bias is obvious since I own one. But as an owner for just 3 months (after a mere 45 years of waiting), my impressions of the car are still fresh and I have to say: there are cars, and there are Sevens. I have driven and owned many exciting cars but the Seven is an entirely different experience. It is extremely small, low, responsive, cool looking, fast and fun. You will be dreaming up excuses to drive it. The experience is totally intense, all of your senses, even smell & feel, are heightened. As noted elsewhere, most modern cars make 100 mph feel like 60 mph. In the Seven, the opposite is true: Cars are decaf, Sevens are double shots of espresso. You will make friends at every gas station and stop light and everyone, even the cops, will smile when they see you. It's like nothing else.
