Doors

Anyone have an idea where I could find doors for my series 2, 1965 Lotus 7?  If nothing else,
just the metal frames would do it for me, I could have the fabric and plexi added

by a shop here in town. A drawing with dimensions would work too.  Thanks, Bill

Are these Caterham or Lotus doors, or are they all the same? An interior photo would help if you could.  Who furnished the top and doors in the photos? I can’t get anyone in the UK to answer my email requests about original series 2 doors etc.   thanks,Bil

The top picture is of the door insides.

Interesting question, when did Caterham stop using bullet fasteners? If they ever did?

These doors use a twist bullet at the door back where as later Caterham use a short strap with a popper snap on the inside of the wheel arch.

Heres mine.  with obligatory house slippers.

Note on my doors, thw rear closure popper is lower.

I don't know exactly when these were the spec, but it could be mod 80s.

I bought them from a fellow in Longview WA in 2006, I think.

Bill - I've an old set I'm not selling but would be happy to pull out for measurements, detailed pictures, etc. if you need to start from scratch.

Commercially, I'd reach out to Chris Mintoft at Redline and Mick at Xtraspecialsevens (both uk).  John Donohue @SevenAmerica might have some leads stateside.

Check with Josh at http://www.rockymountaincaterham.com

He has a few S2 parts there, but also may know a source if he doesn’t have them. Early Caterham will be the same. Until Caterham started messing about with the chassis dimensions, they should all be interchangeable, with only detail differences. If you’re diligent in searching, they turn up on eBay every now and again.

Thanks all, if I can’t find a factory set I’ll reach out for specific dimensions. I’m having trouble reaching Chris at Redline. It takes about a month for him to respond to an email, then if I have a question it takes another month. Hard to order when you can’t talk to him. I’ve called at the right time difference and get a recorded leave a message. Any suggestions on speaking to him, he is supposed to have all the early parts.   Thanks, Bill

X2 on trying to get a reply from Chris.  I've been trying to see if/when they might do another run of reproduction AC Temp gauges for the Lotus Seven Series II.  Months ago, I got an "I'll check into it".  To my recent requests on how that's coming along, I've gotten zero response...

The VDO "Classic" temp gauge is very close to the AC unit in every way. Just needs a custom face marked 40-110 instead of 40-120c.

Back to doors,

Oxted Trimming has been the supplier to Cat of doors  hoods, all the weather parts for decades.

If anyone would know about a S2 pattern they should.

The storefront goes by a different name:
