Ahh, now I see it.  Wasn't looking closely at the bottom.  Not being familiar with it I was expecting a bracket in the middle of the rear panel (obviously obscured by the wheel) with a couple/three studs, like in Jeeps etc.

One out of two ain't bad.

My 1979 had no mounting bracket, nor a hole where one had been.  The tire rested on the carrier and the top of the wheel/tire was strapped to to the car body with a belt, as you see in my previous post.

My 1991 has a bracket that that is fastened to a threaded hole in a horizontal tube in the boot. The bracket is Y-shaped with two studs which accept nuts like those used on the road wheels.

FYI: Moonstone Blue Metallic was first used on the Ford Sierra Cosworth 3 door (hatch). This particular colour requires a light grey undercoat. The top coat is produced only as a varnish finish with a dominant blue colour.

The photos I found on-line show it to be more like metallic silver with a slight blue hue. Obviously, what base coat colour was used plus the thickness of the top coat would play a part in the final product.

Exactly.  One could get the car in any colour you wanted as long as it was black, white, or Ford Moonstone Blue.

I think the original owner of my 1700 Super Sprint may have been a fan of the Ford Sierra Cosworth RS.  I think he ordered all the options for a Prisoner Special Edition, but did not want the BRG with a yellow nose.  When I got the Caterham it was all Ford Moonstone Blue.  I wanted the car to be more-visible, so the nose and fenders are now Caterham Firecracker Yellow.

That's exactly why I ordered mine with this colo(u)r.  But I had to have the bare aluminum body to "add lightness"... 🤪

Long time no post...

I realize this is a build thread, and (alas!) the core build is over for more than two years now (hard to believe, really).

However I decided to resume posting aperiodic tidbits of technical findings and "continuous improvement" tweaks.

One detail that kept nagging me ever since the build was the clearance between the steering shaft and the dipstick hose.  It had been from the start about 1/4" which I thought was too small.  As part of my 1,000 mile "self service" I decided to look for ways to increase it.  I ended up bending and twisting the end of the bracket holding the top of the dipstick hose (it is held by one of the plenum bolts), so that it bends the hose away from the shaft.  I used padded vise-grips.  The gap is now about 1" and I can finally sleep again.

Thank you, J, but we should be more inclusive and consider also how most women would react to said increase.
