Do other earbuds have similar technology?  Wouldn't this solve the issue, if implemented well?

Yes thats exactly why I was experimenting with the Bose earbuds on track.  My helmet has ear cups intended to provide sound insulation.  I thought the mic may just work in that environment.  Will try again when weather is better in a few months.

I have all of them to be honest - use them on flights to cut down on the noise.  The latest is the Quiet Comfort II ear buds.  The catch is that you only get 5-6 hours of battery life before you have to recharge.  Given I just got off 17.5 hour flight that was an issue.  Should be fine battery length for seven driving though.

same problem here.  I managed it because I am a side sleeper.  So when I sleep on a plane I put one bud in the ear that is opposite the pillow and when I wake up to roll over I switch earbuds.  That way one is charging while I'm using the other.  I use AirPods pro II

This thread reminds me that I have a couple of Sena Tufftalk 01 headsets sitting in my garage that aren't getting used .   I'd be happy to sell the pair for $550 shipped (I paid $499 each but they are currently on amazon for 327 each) if anyone is interested.   DM me.

They are this model: https://www.amazon.com/Sena-Tufftalk-01-Bluetooth-Communication-Intercom/dp/B01ERHAAWY
