Congratulations on your Seven, if you’re on Facebook, there’s a Caterham 620 Owner site that has discussions on 620’s from guys that have been there fixed that. Including the cooling issues. It’s a really interesting , knowledgeable group. Enjoy..

The most interesting thing is that they say they have not had a single case of an overcooling 620 reported from outside the UK.

I would not necessarily trust that statement.  I am aware of two 620s in the USA that have had the fix.  I suspect their statement is more indicative of incomplete communication/collective memory with their USA dealers.

It is correct to say that not all 620s seem to be equally affected - that is a genuine puzzle to me - one I put down to less observant owners.

Sun visor options

Ram - this brand can mount heavy cameras to my various cars and not come off on a race track.  It should handle a Caterham 620 on the road with a sun visor despite being a single suction mount.

Clamp this to the windscreen or suction mount it

Thanks for this, I joined and started a discussion on the cooling issue.  Very helpful information. I am exploring the fix offered by PMG but still researching.  I'm waiting to hear back from Caterham about the fix that they offer, what it involves and what it costs.  All things being equal, I would prefer a fix provided by the manufacturer, but I cannot determine if the Caterham fix is effective.  Or if I really need it at all.  There was one 620 owner in the thread who said his car operated at a normal temperature without any fix.  So, I don't want to fix something that isn't broken.  Others in the thread indicated that ALL 620s have an overcooling problem until fixed.

I agree it would be odd for identical cooling systems to behave so differently from car to car.  Croc, the two that you know that had the fix, did they get the PGM fix, or the Caterham fix?  I can't seem to get any information on the effectiveness of the Caterham fix.

thanks!  the first one is one that looked interesting, but the reviews said it was difficult to adjust, which is not a big deal in an aircraft application where a single heading is kept for a long time.  The third option looks like it might be a good choice if I can figure out a way to attach it that works and doesn't look awful.  What I want is a simple visor that I can raise or lower, just like a normal car.

Both were remedied via the Caterham method.  I never heard anything more so assume it solved the problem.

I am familiar with PGM - myself and one other have had dealings with them.  They know their stuff from their motorsport activities.  I would expect their solution is well tested and works.

Thanks for this.  My car is at a Caterham dealer right now and if the Caterham fix is effective it seems the wisest thing would be to have it done before I take delivery.  Now I have to count the days until it arrives.

By the way Croc, that list of cars you have, is it current?  Looks like quite the menagerie!

I think so...have not checked for a while.  The thread on non-7 cars in the off topic section has photos of some of them.

Menagerie is not the word I would have used..."clusterf%$k may be more accurate!  :classic_laugh:
