I was working on something COMPLETELY unrelated, when I realized I could use the same technology for my 7 addiction.

This is a VERY short vid, and I know Al said not to post speeds ( :jester: ), but this is pretty  , at least I think so...

Clicky the linky

Of course, I can add as many parameters as I want. This was just a test.

I was also testing a "real" microphone. I also noticed in this vid how bright the PIAA's are

Edit: disclaimer... this may only work with Internet Explorer on a Windows machine. It requires windows media player. Might work in other browser / OS combos, but I'm not sure.

Cool - how are you feeding the RPM/Throttle/Speed data to the file? was this a manual operation??? I would love to be able to do something like this for the 'bumper cam'- maybe even add G's to the data if possible...

K, you will need some kind of an extract from a data acquisition system... In my case, it's built into the system that I used for my instrumentation. The data needs to have some type of time marker.

You will also need some type of synching event, which is pretty simple, like watching the MPH and video to figure out when the car moves, or engine RPM if you're starting, etc...

The data needs to be formatted a specific way... I did it in Excel, and it only took a couple of minutes. Then you save the formatted file.

You will need a web page (needs to be hosted) that references the video file and the formatted data file, and media player does the rest.

This mechanism is designed for closed captioning, but I think it works really well for our purpose as well. You are not limited to text... I can do bars and other graphic elements, change colors, etc...

If you're interested, send me a sampling of your data file for me to see how hard it would be to setup something standard.

I can ga-run-tee that it don't work on Mac/Safari/Firefox/Camino.

I'll have to see if it'll work in Xine tonight (I've gone all Ubuntu-Linux at home)... If not, Windows inside Ubuntu with vmware works pretty dadgum good anyway.

I just checked with Firefox on XP. This does not work.

But googling the topic, I think it can be formatted to work with Firefox.

I just followed the 80/20 rule :D

doesn't work with opera. nice cheap data display. gonna be hell of alot cheaper than Traqmate.

hell yeah

I can look into what it takes with the other browsers... The basic technology is based on closed captioning, so I'm sure there is a way to satisfy that.

I don't know exactly how Traqmate does it, but a couple of years ago, I did a project to actually capture and overlay data onto the video itself, including dial gauges. Unfortunately I no longer have a video sample, but I can tell you it was a pain in the azz... this takes a couple of minutes of work and is up and running.

there are several programs that will add teh data into a funky display. it looks great:cool: getting the sync s very important, so maybe the all inclusive chasecam+traqmate package makes sense. certainly takes a lot of cents. i gotta find out what a local guy is using as his camera on top of his STi and see what the real output looks like. none of this youtube mumbo jumbo. guess he'll get co-drive for an event:d

After seeing Mazda's neat little clip, I started searching for Hardware/software to add the speed/rpm and other data to the video to better analyze my autox runs. I found that Stack does a nice one as does a company called DaVid. Unfortunately it appears that the Stack system uses the Stack dash for its source. the DaVid, system seems to offer good functionality, as well. Both systems take the Data an sync it directly on to your video. (or thats what I think they do). The DaVid system can take the info directly from your ECU or some additonal sensors. Downside it the Cost. The DaVid system is somewhere between $1800 and $2800.

That's pretty steep for something I'd use about 10 times a year.

Jon, the Traqmate you refer to seems to be software that can be purchased and used to sync up data from a data logger, and video. Have you seen any examples of what it looks like? And is it somewhat easy to do?

Tom, do you have any kind of data collection capability right now?

No, I don't. My initial goal was just to find software that allowed me to sync two video runs side by side so that I could see where I was faster or slower. Your added feature of extra data being included could be very helpful to see speed/ rpm or possibly braking data. Golf joke was a hit by the way. Tom

what got me going in that direction

my current video editting software doesn't allow me to overlay or side by side 2 different clips, so i can't accurately contrast my codrivers and myself. there's what we suspect and what is. the data aquisition gives non subjective data.

and it looks bitchin'.

edit: Tom, what i think i need to benefit(improve) my driving are throttle input, brake, and even teh lateral g sensor because i tend to add minor inputs on an autoX course. seeing where more exxperienced drivers are on what pedal is an eye opener.

Thanks Jon, that traqmate look is what I'm after. Looks like about $1100-$1200 for traqmate and trackvision.

That's alot better than the $1800-$2800 of the Aim Da Vid system.

Are you running this system? If so how do you tap into the coil/tach for the RPM data?

not running it yet. hopefully it will be a winter project with a bunch of electrical tasks.

u still up for next sundays pocono blat? i beleive bruce and dave are still paperwork issues so they may not be able to make it. i may be running my front wheels like mazdas. course, the won't be 275 wide.

Jon, the wife just informed me that we have a black tie dinner on Saturday night, so I don't think I can make it Sunday. The weather looks to be great too. I had planned to tow the car up and stay over on friday and saturday and then tow home on Sunday.

There's still time yet if the weather stays like this. Tom
