Pipes
Hello all-- I am certain this has been discussed but a search did not turn up any results. Like most of us, I have always dreamed of buying a cool car in Europe, driving it for a couple of weeks, and having it shipped home. My Dad did this with a TR4A back in the 60s when he was young. Would such a thing be possible today, with a Caterham? Or does it have to be shipped to the US in kit form? I know there is a 25 year rule so it would be possible if I were to find a 1999 or older Cat.
Croc
It would be possible to do with a car that is greater than 25 years old. Consider getting some form of breakdown cover though.
NeoBear
You want to be careful with this buddy. For instance, I had an 89 Honda civic while I was in Italy in the Air force. When I considered shipping it, I Was told I was going to have to spend north of 10grand to even start to get the car shipped. there where all kinds of modifications that would have to be done to the car, things like crash and support items and even modifying the seat belts with different belt clips, it was pretty gnarly. Don't even get me started on the emissions changes they mentioned. As I understand it Kit cars can get around this in most cases as long as they are not fully built cause then they are not considered a car? Essentially make sure you do your research before you commit to anything buddy.
Vovchandr
Major question is whether it's under 25 years old or over. Over 25, just about anything goes. Under 25, pretty much impossible* (with minor/rare/extreme caveats that aren't worth it under normal circumstances)
