MHKflyer52
Ahem...how dare you overlook the fire-breathing potency of an OHV 8-valve Pinto engine, featuring driveway lubrication? I though that line "featuring driveway lubrication" was just for 7's that used BMC motors.:jester:
locostv8
Ahem...how dare you overlook the fire-breathing potency of an OHV 8-valve Pinto engine, featuring driveway lubrication? I started down this road initialy, have a TC that could be used as a donor, but with a little research found that the 351 with aluminum heads and many bolt ons would be within fa few pounds more power and should be more reliable. ...If you go to some of the "Cobra" forums you'll see a lot of "my kit is better than your kit" posts that get kind of old. I doubt that you see that kind of comparison here.... This is why I was adamant about marque inclusive in the formative days. I was spending quite a bit of time on the "Cobra" forums researching since I'm doing a "Cobra" minus the body. It becomes rather tiring sorting thru mine is an original , yours is a kit made by the original builder, your kit fits a VW, ETC. "I CAN SPEND MORE $$$ THAN YOU". slomove
Jim ........ I'm not certain I'll ever get hard core as some here, to do long distances with it though. That could change, but I doubt it. ......... Nothing hardcore about it....admittedly different than in the family sedan but way more comfy than e.g.a bike vacation trip. I can drive a few hundred miles a piece in my Birkin and get out just as relaxed (or better) as in any other car. Obviously having a lot of fun, great view and fresh air. Caveat: recommended accessories are ear plugs, good driving shoes, a good seat and something to protect from rain. Gert
SkinnyG
This is why I was adamant about marque inclusive in the formative days. This was one thing I found very surprising (and I still can't get over it) when the group from USA7's came through on their tour - they DID NOT CARE what se7en you had - you were accepted. I still can't get over this. There is a (relatively) local guy up here who is a strong proponent of the "Caterham" marque, referring to others as "imposters" and "counterfeits." I'm stoked by the inclusion here. It still seems surreal to me. G
slngsht
heh, that'd be the difference between a "Caterham guy" and a "car guy".
BusaLoco
Well SkinnyG,:iagree: You (and I) really shouldn't have an opinion. After all, as I have been told by a certain someone "All others marques really aren't a Seven" :bs:
MHKflyer52
Those folks that are that way an drive a Caterham of Westfield or Berklin and tend to have their nose pointing up are just JELLOUS when they see how much cheaper our cars where for us to acquire.....Just my belief.....and if I had the money to buy a new Caterham or one of the other makes I would still take and build my own as I have done just for the satisfaction. What good is it if you cannot modify / upgrade / fix it yourself ? Of course for some people .. life is short .. Rob

It's funny... you can build a Seven for twice the cost of a Caterham, or tenth of it, depending on what you're after. Honestly, I don't knock anybody's ride, Caterham, clone, Cobra, whatever - well, unless it has a big wing and spinners...
rv-4mike
And I thought I might start a trend as the first Seven type with spinners. I guess not.
sporqster
Those aren't spinners, they're powered ground effects!

Mazda: I went to Williams Grove a week ago to see "The Outlaws". Big wings and 900hp motors. They can pull both front wheels down the chute. They ball um up in a nano second, with just bent tubing left over. Did anyone pass for the lead in F1 this year?
slngsht
either I've gotten old, or F1 has gotten boring. I haven't watched it since the days of Senna and Prost, but there are still ALOT of F1 followers, so must still be exciting. For the record, I have heard Hamilton did pass Alonso for the lead at some point in a race this season, but could be wrong. I think the most exciting motorsports on TV is off road rally or superbikes.

eVox
Anyway, I've been debating whether to try my hand at building a Seven. Maybe a Locost. Looks like there's some really nice home-built versions on this forum. And I've seen some of the frame plans on the internet. So where do you guys get your fiberglass parts from? Nose cones, fenders, etc... I've already built a kit car that's currently sitting in the garage, hence the user name, but a Seven has a lot of appeal to me. Maybe sell the "Roadster", build a Seven? Welcome CobraJim! The seven community is the place to be. USA7s.org (here) is a great way to meet people and snag a few rides in their cars . If you are interested in building a car (as opposed to buying a finished car), definitely check out www.locostusa.com/forums . I am a current builder (locost frame with toyota celica donor) and am loving the build process. There are many different levels of builds from assemble-this-kit to design-your-own-car, as well as steps in between. Definitely something for everyone. If you have any questions, feel free to ask! Mondo
Got to agree with slngsht. been watching motogp for the several years and it's been quite competitive (well this year was a bit boring but the 250gp bikes were great). World superbike, with the one manufacture tire rule as been good too. Do they still show world rally on speed? I loved it but haven't seen it for a couple years...
