ianashdown Posted September 18 Posted September 18 I recently sent an irreplaceable part to Arch Motors as part of my restoration only to have UPS loose it. TWICE! They will lie to you, provide fake proof of delivery, after two ‘investigations’ offer no accounting of what efforts were made to understand why the proof of delivery shows it being delivered at a specific time but security cameras show no deliveries around that time. If you do ship with UPS, and I highly recommend against it, give it a declared value of what its loss would mean to you, not just its actual specific value, and insure it for that value. I doubt you’d ever get a claim fulfilled, but with doing this the very best you can hope for is $100. Im not sure if FedEx or USPS offer any more security, but do whatever you can to protect you valuable or irreplaceable parts. Ian SoCal
NSXguy Posted September 18 Posted September 18 Thanks for sharing; that’s very unfortunate and frustrating. I’ve received the best overseas shipment performance with DHL and almost exclusively use them now as I got very disappointing service from FedEx and UPS. 1
MV8 Posted September 18 Posted September 18 Sorry to hear that. IMHO, all the shippers have similar issues. Curious as to what sort of part is not replaceable in this day and age. I cannot think of anything that cannot be made to at least appear original.
Alex-Ks1 Posted September 18 Posted September 18 (edited) You have a lot of thieves working for these companies ,who ever they are . I had a UPS delivery ,I watched with my camera on the porch ,She put it by the front door then took a photo showing that, then took it an ran to the truck .. I ran faster . Detained her and called called the police . They took her and a few hours later another driver showed and took the truck Edited September 18 by Alex-Ks1 1
EdWills Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Pegasus still offers shipping by USPS into Canada (and the U.S.), and both the USPS service and Canada Post have never given me any trouble with deliveries. If the item requires duty here in Canada, Canada Post works out the value, sends a note to your address, then you pick the item up at the post office where you pay for their service (currently $9.00 plus the duty/taxes), or they sometimes do the transaction at your door (if the postal worker has time). If it doesn't require duty or taxes (similar to the previous U.S. de minimus system) it's left in your securely locked roadside post box. I do realize that this method means that you are not in a hurry for the part(s). DHL has always been good when I am in need of an item quickly from the U.K. I attempted to take in a neighbour's parcel (at her request - she had gone out) that had just been dropped off by a courier driver, and he told me "That's theft!". I told him in that case, be my witness in court. He thought about it for a second, then drove off. "They say the darkest hour is just before dawn. So if you're going to steal your neighbours newspaper, that's the time to do it."
IamScotticus Posted September 20 Posted September 20 I pay almost $100 a year for a box at a parcel shipping business to ensure my items are accepted by a person. I shouldn't have to, but that's where we are.
Alex-Ks1 Posted September 20 Posted September 20 The USA is the land of opportunities, the crooks will use any opportunity to steal from om you , it's a shame you just can't shoot them .a few people have done a great job in getting back , 1 . A man filled a box with pig shit and mailed it to his house, he was robbed a few times , so he left the package on the front porch and sure enough 2 shit heads ran on his porch and stole the package . Lolololol. 2. Another guy bought a big screen TV . He had to get rid of the old broken one, he put it in the box. Wrapped it up and put it on his porch , Sure enough that night some ass holes took it away ,loading into a small car on the roof . You can't make this stuff up . There are more horses asses. Then horses
IamScotticus Posted September 20 Posted September 20 (edited) Amazon has been skimping on packaging and privacy by allowing the items to be delivered in the product packaging alone, saving the step of Amz from boxing. Which I understand. They save costs and you get it faster. But the turds see what you have. I was really upset recently when I got a book in an oversized box, with no packing, so the book could bounce around and damage the edges. Same with an aerosol can in which the cap cracked. Got an Amz item recently in an over size box, a 4x20" paper water filter. The packer put one little sheet of packaging paper in there. Really? The filter wouldn't have been damaged by a bump or two. But I will give Amz credit for trying to consolidate items into as few boxes as possible by giving me the option for a later delivery day. That's a good way to conserve resources. And they give me a dollar or two of credit for the save. That works for me. Oh, for others who are having delivery problems, Amz has those remote locker boxes you can have delivered to. There might be one near you. Amz gives them silly names like, Beauregard and Weezy. Edited September 20 by IamScotticus
