Aero was recently discussed in another thread.  Here's an interesting article:

American racing legend Dan Gurney long advocated for cars with little downforce, extreme horsepower, and wide tires to really put performance in the hands of drivers rather than aerodynamicists. Former Indy driver J.R. Hildebrand recently brought the idea forward with a thorough analysis of what such a low-downforce, open-wheel race car could be. It’s worth a look.

Sounds like a blast! I hope it gets built. I completely agree in regards to aero for the most fun. I'm surprised at how the article suggests downforce barely affects lap times.

An interesting and old argument.  The racing would likely be closer and less limited by all the typical aero issues, you'd certainly see more oversteer and understeer!

People like technology though.  I'd rather see continued aero and getting rid of all the fake stuff to make the racing closer: DRS, push to pass, etc...  And get rid of batteries and all the systems needed to control them.

My 2 cents.

I’d love to see more over and understeer at the highest level of racing. And for those of us that appreciate the technology, just give everyone a fan car (so same aero advantage regardless of speed) and twin chassis (to decouple mechanical grip from downforce). Think Brabham BT46B + Lotus Type 88. Current tech could be much more exciting.
