Superlight R on the 'Ring

Excellent footage Al - good spot.

That reminds me of the RUF 911 video from the 90s (or maybe even the 80s) called Faszination - anyone seen it?  Awesome coverage of wild controlled oversteer - read 'smoke pouring from arches' from a guy wearing sandles!

Also, anyone driven the Nurburgring on Gran Turismo 4 on the playstation 2?  I have been playing this recently and it is uncanny how similar the track appears to the video, and driving a 955 hp 350z to sub 6 minute laps is quite a lot of fun when the 7 is in the garage http://www.usa7s.com/forum/smileys/biggrin5.gif

I've seen the Porsche vid.

The new Corvette Z06 ran the ring at 7:42.9 in full production trim, driven by Jan Magnussen. At the end of one of the straights, the car actually went airborne and landed hard enough to go airborne again on the rebound. Pics:

I finally got to watch the Caterham run. Very nice.

He lost a few seconds getting held up by traffic.

I think the big guys (GM,Porsche, etc...) somehow make their runs on clear tracks - can they rent the track for exclusive use??

I don't think you can rent the long circuit, it's officially a public

toll road (hence the coach going round on the Cat vid). Last time I was

there - mid 80's admittedly - there was all kinds of cars and bikes,

plus Dunlop were testing tires for LeMans. So you had everything from

Trabants going 45 mph, to LeMans prototypes pulling 180 plus. Good

brakes and regular mirror use were the order of the day.
