MHKflyer52
Awesome.. Fun,,,and this is what we are looking to find again..."fun"... not all stiff and strict about if the color is original or not, or who did the rebuild on your car..because the answer is pretty much yourself, not the local euro car rebuilder. Thanks everyone.. For what it's worth...we have come to 2 options. We were just made an offer to but a ginetta at a cant pass up price, but we also just got an offer for a perfect...we mean perfect birkin. If we get the ginetta, we would be putting a zetec engine in her.. ahhh,,such pleasant decisions...however if we DO get the ginetta..we would remain (if allowed) on this website here.. sadly theres only a remote handful of ginetta,s here and not much support like the USA.7's. and it's a stepsister of the lotus 7 anyways. Actually, in the UK, they compete on the track together. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qy_wJezkOEI Point is..either way something is going to happen. here's the ginetta we are looking at.. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1658779032_DSCF0578.JPG would you guys throw us out for driving this to a "7" event? LOOKS like a 7 with a fancy skin to me....I say stay with the group even if you get the Ginetta.
rv-4mike
Never heard of a Ginetta until a couple of weeks ago. My background is with American hot rods, not Euro sports cars (how'd I ever get interested in the 7?). Anyway, a couple of weeks ago they held the Coronado Speed Festival which is an opportunity for vintage sports car owners to race on an improvised race course at NAS North Island. There were a couple of Ginettas in one of the groups. One in particular was unbelievably fast. Not the fastest car of the day, but at my particular vantage point (last turn coming onto the front straight) it seemed to be as fast as anything else that day and better sorted than most. I'd love to have one. Only disappointment at the Speed Festival was the lack of sevens. There were none! Only thing I can think of is that they were excluded for safety reasons as semi-open wheeled cars. There were lots of other vintage Lotus types, just no sevens. southwind25
Well, a decision has been made.. we will be NOT buying the new ginetta, but instead (attempt) to buy a Birkin "7", and keep the old ginetta we have and rebuild it as time goes on. So this gives us the opportunity to have both a "7", and ginetta that is still vintage race eligible someday.

I'm looking for a Winter project.
Kitcat
Speaking of Birkins, the one persistent complaint I have heard about them here on the Forum is wiring issues. Maybe the Birkin faithful can comment? My impression is that after 2004 it got better, but prior to that the wiring mite be problematic (As in:"I had to completely rewire the d*@m thing"). southwind25
wiring doesnt bother us so much...we are used to the prince of darkness-lucas..how bad can a birkin be? as well, we ended up doing our own wiring harness's in the past. not too bad really, just very time consuming. slomove
I ended up rewiring my '98 Birkin. But that was not really because something serious did not work. The vital functions were all O.K. It just pi$$ed me off that I could not troubleshoot the wiring ratsnest under the scuttle when the fast wiper position failed. Being an EE I just could not stand that. I know a few other people did the same but surely most people with older Birkins just drive it and don't worry about the cable mess. After 2002 (I believe) this was vastly improved. southwind25
Very nice and neat installation. we did something similar when we made the harness for the sprite. Oh, as we looked through your webpages,,,we could identify with several of the upgrades you did..and would guess we would be following much the same path with ours if we can make this all happen.
