slngsht Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 had ANOTHER hit and run on the minivan today. Van is 2.5 years old. Somebody ripped off the front bumper in a parking lot last year (and ran). This morning it got hit on the driver side at 7Eleven parking lot. BUT this time we have an eye witness and a LICENSE PLATE :hurray: Pic of the damage http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/348016270_CIMG2018.JPG
xromad Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 I understand the frustration.... In the late mid to late 80s We had a Gray Plymouth Sundance that got hit 7 times in 4 years. 4 were hit-and-run. 2 were no insurance. 1 was our fault (wife got hit at a rr crossing) To this day I still have the accident report (Other Vehicle: 1953 Alco Locomotive) .
Mandurath Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 My semi got backed into by a conversion van. They tried to run, but there plastic bumper had hooked on my tow hook. Pulled the bumper cover right off. No damage to me hehehe.

MHKflyer52 Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Mazda, Check the store for an outside security camera as most 7Elevens tape their parking lots for security reasons and maybe you can get the operator to give you a copy of their security photo/tape/disk if you ask nice. Martin PS: Happy Holidays
xflow7 Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 I was over in England this week for a couple of days and while riding in a cab in London somebody clipped our rear bumper trying to squeeze around in traffic. The driver in the other car looked over at us sheepishly then continued on. The best part is on the back of his car was emblazoned: "Learn to Drive" It was a driving instruction service! Our driver didn't even notice; I had to call up from the back "Hey, someone just hit your bumper." Trip was good, other than the fact that the weather was terrible so no Sevens spotted and no time to go visit the Caterham Mothership or any other sites (other than Stonehenge from the A303).

Martin PS: Happy Holidays I think the police identified her with the supplied info. We're waiting to get the police report so I can go hit up her insurance. I bet if I show up at the same time Monday morning at the 7-11, she'll be driving up to get her cup of coffee :boxing:
MHKflyer52 Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Mazda, The reason that I said that is a lot of times the guilty person will try and say they were not driving the vehicle that they had lent it to the neighbor or that they try to turn it around and say they did not know that their car had been hit and that you are the person in the wrong even when their is a eye witness due to the fact that it is now a hit an run not just an accident. Martin

Martin Interesting. I will try the 7-11. The guy gave us a brief description of the lady (well, I have another word) driving the car as well.
slngsht Posted December 10, 2007 Author Posted December 10, 2007 alright, here is the latest... My wife stopped by 7Eleven. They do not have an outside camera. But while she was there, she drove around the nearby office buildings and FOUND THE MORONs car The police contacted them and they called us tonight with their insurance info. The girl was driving her mom's car... supposedly she let "her friend" borrow her car, and "her friend" hadn't told her about the accident . I guess "her friend" is a coworker :nonod: Anyway, talked to their carrier, and they said if the owner denies they were driving the car, then we have a problem. I said yes YOU do, because I have eye witnesses who can describe her. She said she will call them and get back to me. She did, and they are covering it. Funny thing is I asked her if they admitted there was no "friend". She said that there was a friend, but they're covering it anyway - heh, this would be the first time an insurance company covered something they didn't have to  So, off we go to their adjustor to see what happens.
MHKflyer52 Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Mazda, Glad to hear your going to get the van fixed on their buck. Are the police going to ticket the guilty car driver or the friend as I due belive it is still hit an run especially if the damage is over $500 even though it happened in a public parking area. You should ask the police to see just what they are going to due unless you want to give the guilty person a early X-mass gift.
slomove Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 As much as I have pity with a young inexperienced driver I would push for the full use of the law. That is the only thing that will prevent her and others she is going to tell about it doing the same thing again.
slngsht Posted December 11, 2007 Author Posted December 11, 2007 From what I understand, I really don't have much say in what the police will do after this. I will tell them that I prefer to see them prosecute, but at this point it's between them and the guilty party, and I'm out of it since they admitted guilt. It's a bummer. I would really like to see a consequence for them besides "here is my insurance info".
southwind25 Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Yes had this happen to us Several times.. GRRrrrrrr:mad: it seems as if mary's car is flypaper for idiots. Ok mistakes happen, thats why it's called an accident but dammit be responsable! in defense...i happened to be the one inflicting damage one time years ago...:banghead: but i went and found the owner, faced what i caused and fully paid the damages.
WestTexasS2K Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 We were parked at a convience store gas pump in my wife new Civic Si with a total of 323 miles on it. When we came out we found some idgit backed into the front of the car bending the hood fender and knocking out the headlight. Cops said it was out of their hands because it was on a private parking area. We ended up having to use uninsured motorist to cover the repairs. We couldnt find a witness which is strange since the store parking lot was full at the time.
spotcheck Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 Some things just go around - I'm turning left, start to creep forward, a flamer comes shooting into the oncoming lane, so I hit the brakes, and the guy behind me hits my bumper. He follows me into the parking lot, we exchange info, I get an estimate, get the check from his insurance company, all is cool. Except I travel all the time for work, and the damage was minor (for BMW, minor = Weeks later, I'm in a different part of town. Exact same thing happens, except this time the other driver is a rich kid HS senior from Buckhead (Atlanta area with big $$) driving Dad's Volvo to a high-priced private school (I recognized the insignia on the school uniform). We get out of our cars. He tagged me in almost the exact same spot on the rear bumper as the first guy. I could see the additional damage, but all he saw was the entire thing. Kid's white as a sheet, and visibly nervous. I shake his hand and tell him - "Congratulations!! Today is your lucky day." He looks at me like I'm from Mars and says "How do you figure that?" I tell him about the previous accident, and that he did not add any damage, and he is off the hook, except "You have all day to come up with a really good story to tell your Dad about the scratches in his front bumper - shouldn't be a problem." Moral of the story - something very similar happened to me as a HS senior, and the guy just laughed it off and sent me on my way. I don't remember the story I made up for my Dad, but I know he didn't believe it - he just couldn't prove I was bulls*****ng him. Hopefully, this kid will do the same thing in about 35 years.
locostv8 Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 I had a tan Toyota corolla, the one that looked like a fastback mustang, years ago. It was taged from behind the first drive then several times in parking lots, no notes. The last time was in a parkinglot by a cement truck that said he didn't see it. I took that as a clue and got rid of it that week before someone got hurt.
Mandurath Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 When i was still in high school, I had a 65 mustang. wasn't paying attention in the drive through at jiffy burger and drifted into the rear of a pretty new jaguar. I got out and went up to the guy, who got his order and drove off, leaving me standing there. No damage to either car (woot for cars with metal bumpers), but he wouldn't know that without looking. I always figured it was stolen or uninsured.
