u will header wrap that part of the steering as well?

 

heh, those engine mounts don't flex much, but if that's a problem, we do have a solution.

 

The last runner on that side, which is shown in the pic, can be changed to start with a sharper curve, closer to the block to provide more clearance. The curves will look similar to the first runner:

I suppose it's time for an update.

 

After a frantic push to get the car done by June 21, I went dormant for a couple of weeks. Smashed my pinky pretty good, got sick, then the plasma broke (and we could have really used that)... so I totally lost momentum.

 

I still managed to work on her an hour or two here and there, and the chassis is nearly ready for accepting parts now.

 

The plasma parts FINALLY arrived today. I have to make two small cuts in the tunnel plates, and then on to cutting the floor aluminum. After that, I can start putting the drivetrain back in.

 

Here is a pic with painting nearly complete.

 

You can see an unpainted part near the rear of the tunnel, which will get cut out this weekend.

You really are starting from scratch. I will have to come back out and get a ride in the new improved franken7 and compare it the origional. I expect it will be extremly different.... or at the very least, extreme!!!

front is unchanged for now... after I get it running, I'm going to modify the pickup points for the upper Aarm.

yes, the frame is still the origianal rotus. I did add a tab for picking up the outboard shocks. I have a mod plan for that, but I'm going to wait till the car is back on the road, and do it as a weekend project.

Worked on the floor today... Got tired of waiting for the freaking plasma cutter. Waited all this time to get the replacement unit back. Got it back, and the leads are red, green, and blue, with no instructions as to which is which for 220 hookup.

 

Picked up the saw and did it the old fashioned way. Still have a little bit of smoothing to do...

After sitting totally idle for a whole week :banghead: finally got a chance to work on the car last night, and a few hours today.

 

The time was very productive, thanks to having my plasma cutter back, and also BIG thanks to Bob for introducing me to clecos.

 

All rivet holes are done, and the floor is cut where the oil pan will sit.

 

The bottom will be almost completely flush. The hole you see will be filled with the oil pan, which should only stick out 1/16", if at all. The bottom of this car will be as flat as... well... you guessed it... the bottom of A ROLEX :rofl:

 

the only thing I need to do is tie the two little winglets on the sides of the oil pan to the piece in front, as the are not supported very well.

 

One final coat of paint on the chassis, and it's time for the rivet gun :)

Hi Mazda,

The belly pan looks good.Do you have to reskin the whole car? Or reuse the old skin.

There will be a open track event at Pocono this fall, coming up???

The whole thing :( The tube where the outside elbow sits is at a different angle than before, and extends several inches further back (roll bar is further back)

Well, after a lot of sweating in 90+ degree humid weather, she is standing on her own 4 feet

I don't have all the right length and grade bolts, so all the links have to be taken off one by one for final cleaning and assembly, but it's nice to be able to roll her around now.

 

With any luck, engine will go in sometime over the weekend.

Looks good Mazda. Now I see that youdon't need a hole for the drive shaft as I originally though that the bulkhead behind the seats was shown when you had it upside down.

I bet the kids in the neighbor hood have never seen that big of a home built couster car.....:D :d :D
