yellowss7
Actually Norm Beaver was the fastest at the autox at the Ripken Stadium lot last year. Norm is the smooth fast and really loud one. Nice thing about autoxing a 7 is that everyone wants to either drive your car or go for a ride, because the 7 is THE Car to Drive in an autox. Roman, to start with you're probably better off driving your car on street tires for a few events until you get the feel of the car. Conventional wisdom has it that you're more likely to pick up bad habits starting on slicks. However, now that I'm on slicks it is really easy to overdrive the car on the street with the street tires. But once you splurg for slicks, you'll be amazed at how the car sticks. Other than that we're just out having fun driving these little cars really, really hard. safetly. One day, if I ever grow a set I'll see what the big boys experience on the track. :flag:
yellowss7
Roman, I just got back from a Solo Chiefs meeting and it looks like the philly region will host 3 novice schools this year. These are great opportunities to get instruction and a lot of seat time for the money. First one is tenatively set for April 26,27 at the Boeing lot in Ridley Park. Just off I-95. Check the Philly Scca web site in a week or two for details. As for other help, I'd be glad to have you ride with me and I or another instructor can ride with you on your runs. I alos usually bring a video camera so we can record your runs. Tom
slngsht
novice schools are a GREAT idea... other than coming out with the philly boys to play last year, I only do school/test & tune autocrosses for a few reasons: 1- MUCH more seat time - it is not uncommon to get 30 runs in a day 2- You can get REAL help from instructors, both with your skills, and your car's setup. They can ride in the car with you, drive your car with you in it, etc... It is amazing to see someone get in your car for the first time and beat your time handily. I've only done the DC SCCA schools - I assume philly reigon is similar.

Kitcat
Auto-X school is a great learning experience. Excellent way to acquire car control skills. In my case, those skills wh/I acquired in auto-X saved my family from a sure wreck on the interstate: In dark/driving rain, fast lane floods, turns into a pond, drivers spin out of control. I am in the middle lane and suddenly there are cars and people standing all over the highway ahead of me-just like an auto X cone slalom. I was a hero to my family for somehow threading the needle without hitting anything. I also found the transition to track days pretty easy based on what I learned about driving on the edge in auto-x. Keith
I'd recommend that you leave the car setup alone for the first few events. Don't even mess with tire pressure between runs. Too many people get hung up on trying to adjust the car when they're still trying to figure out how to get through the course. A 7's going to be a fun first autocross car. You have to work pretty hard to stay ahead of it because everything happens so fast. But they are fun because they can completely dominate. I usually take FTD by several seconds :7drive:
