7evin
Just a little update, I do not recommend the carbon fiber wings for anything more than looks. They are to thin and distort at high speeds. On the other hand the aluminum version is very nice. I think you could stand on them and they are cheaper. If I can find the charger for my camera I'll post some pics. Currently upgrading the 7s human sleeping attachment/ alcohol smuggling device. As Bob refers to it as the "Sarcophagus" Cheers 7evin

WestTexasS2K
Kevin and Michelle are going to need all the support they can get. They should be well worn by VIR. I will be meeting them at TWS and the drag strip to cheer them on and lend a hand if needed. People can go to the http://www.onelapofamerica.com look at the route and stop by the track the day they are there and cheer them on. It is nice to have some fans in the crowd. Sevnn
Gratz on getting the car up and running so well. I was looking at the I/C issue and I'm curious if you could move the radiator more towards the center and have the end tanks on the I/C that wrap around both sides of the radiator. Dinan did some very interesting end tank designs on the I/C the built for the e46 M3. It sounds like over the radiator isn't an option but it looks like there might be enough room on the sides if you could squeeze in about 2 inches on both sides. WestTexasS2K
The radiator can not move to the drivers side due to the frame and lower neck interferance. Plus the tubing would have to go down to 1.5" to fit there. This would really restrict flow. It doesnt appear to be an issue with temp so far. We have close to 800 miles on it in the last few weeks no over temp issues yet. But the weather has been very good. We will see what the 100 deg days does to it. Sevnn
I definitely understand that reducing the piping size would restrict airflow. Dinan solved this by doing a cone shaped tube that is flattened and curved to wrap around the radiator while increasing its total cross-section. I wasn't able to find really descriptive pictures of the setup but maybe these will help: http://www.dinancars.com/assets/Image/ride%20and%20drive%20010.jpg http://67.18.219.83/image_hosting/web_pages/raymondmanas/DinanM3-24.JPG You would need something a bit bigger than this to handle 15 psi of boost and I don't know if you would be able to get the passenger side tank to wrap around the radiator (perhaps outside the frame rail). Hopefully your setup will work great in hotter weather and you won't have to engineer anything different but if you do, perhaps this could help. WestTexasS2K
Still doesnt change the fact that we cant move the radiator over. Mandurath
If you dont have it already, may consider a turbo type oil cooler if it starts to run warm on you. One with a built in thermostat/bypass so the engine does not run to cool either. They are about the size of small intercoolers and can be placed just about anywhere. The carbon wings, can they be filled with foam to stop the flex? Seems a big waste not to use them. http://www.uscomposites.com/foam.html http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1235608497_RX7 Oil Coller.jpg http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/414752198_Thermostat Housing.jpg
WestTexasS2K
Mandurth it is our plan to fill the wings with some polyurathane foam. We just are running out of time for it now. The company made us a good deal on the aluminum wings since the carbonfibers had so much flex. I have my new car to build which will get wings too. So they arent going to be going to waste. 7evin
WOW, thanks for all the input, You guys rock. Spaz, We have already signed up..... Thanks for the plug. If anyone wants to tell them about us we would be grateful. Bob, Would love to see you at VIR in the beast.... Here is my cell if you don't have it. 678.314.3906. Chuck, Thank you for everything you and Barb do to support us. You two are awsome. Dinner my treat before the one lap...... your treat if we win.... Well we spent 3 days wringing this things neck at TWS..:ack: .... I think Eric Foss ( pro driver/instructor for Porsche and Mazda...) said it best..... "WOW this thing is amazing, I have never driven anything like it.... totally Sick..." He helped us tune the suspension and overall setup.... I learned allot. Sunday morning Eric took me with him for a 20 min thrashing...... I saw Jesus at least twice maybe 3 times, not sure it was just a blur... We passed everything on the track. The top 7 cars Z06"s Porsches and a 350z. (all on racing slicks and gutted) 153 down the front stretch.... According to the max speed on the GPS. With 2 of us in the car he turned 1:54 min. He believes the car is capable of 1:50 with a few more tweeks. NOT with me in it. He brought several people by to show them the car. They all were full of Q"s He apologized to me and said "I just can't stop thinking about this thing" I said "welcome to my world".... Near the end of that run the temp started to come up. Pulled in and found we had blown a head gasket. Loaded her up and we are in Dallas today at Kenny Tran's shop. He let me use his dyno bay to pull the head. Issue... Honda studs did not hold. Going with ARP studs and changing the valve springs and retainers while we are at it..... Glad we found it now and not 3000 miles into the one lap. I'll post videos later tonight if I have time. Here are a few pics http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/726660669_pics 014.jpg http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/2127085455_pics 017.jpg http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/181016652_pics 021.jpg Mojito and the one lap RV. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1631366830_pics 034.jpg Eric taking it out for a shake down..... This dude is so fast. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/766936867_pics 013.jpg Cheers 7evin Thanks again for everyones support and input. slngsht
I know the new car is a different animal than the old one, but how much of an impact does the wing have on high speed corners? Did you play with adjusting it?
BobDrye
7evin: The head gasket and the sealing surfaces are as important as the ARP bolts. Make sure that you look at the old gasket closely, and read it to find where it blew. Do you use data logging to see what the maximum pressure and temperatures were? If you need any parts at VIR I can bring them. I'm just down the street from Inline Pro. I get back from teaching in Reno on Monday. My cell number is 703-399-6806. Just remember what Roger Penske said “luck is when preparation meets opportunity". I'm going to try to drive my bucket of bolts even if it's in primer. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/522156301_Copy of P1010680.JPG :ack:
7evin
Rear wing, This track is rather fast, we had to dial some wing out of the car. We are getting so much rear bite that you almost can't throw the rear out.... All most. Bob, Thank you and we are addressing sealing surfaces also. The Data colection is not complete. See you at VIR. He has a to install the intercomm and start resting up. Most of the competitors will start to arrive tonight and tommorrow morning to get prepared for everything.
