Al N. Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 This is the thread for the Ozarks site under consideration for the 2009 National Meet. Our goal is to have a more central location so that people from more parts of the country can participate. Note that we are looking into transportation from the coasts to make it easier to plan the trip (by shipping your car, you won't have to take into account the days it takes to drive to the meet site). I will be posting a document here that briefly describes both locations and provides route maps and possible host hotels. Note that voting here does not obligate you — we're just trying to get a better read on levels of commitment/interest. Al Navarro USA7s Club Secretary
BobDrye Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Al: I'm going to spend a week at Big Cedar Lake Lodge in the Ozarks with my family on a business trip at the end of May. I plan to tow my seven there. As I read about the roads there I get excited. It sounds like a "great" site for a national event. Our group got a rate of $129.00 per day at the lodge. It's only 10 miles from Branson. :)

First class facility even 20 years ago and I think things have only improved. Jack
Al N. Posted March 18, 2008 Author Posted March 18, 2008 Bob, that would be great...take pix and form opinions. Let's correspond before you go, too...
BobDrye Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Al: Our group booked a block of 100 nights to get that rate. As I read different forums about the area roads it seems that like "the dragon" there are no bad ones. A'll keep you informed.

Bob, in the "white paper" for the 2009, there are a few routes already outlined, thanks to Jerry E.
BobDrye Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Bob, in the "white paper" for the 2009, there are a few routes already outlined, thanks to Jerry E. I read the "white paper"; it appeared that most of the drives were over 200 miles. I think that the most efficient site would be an area that just as soon as you leave the site would be directly connected "great twisties." It appears that the Ozarks could produce that. Another way of saying it would be that if you wanted to give friend a great 30 minute drive it would take only 30 minutes of so. :7drive:
lowflyer Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Is this event "firm", or is it still under discussion. Just by luck I have in-laws with a house in Branson, which could make this very do-able.
locostv8 Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 ...Our group got a rate of $129.00 per day at the lodge...Our group booked a block of 100 nights to get that rate... If the rate is anywhere near this it will eliminate quite a few. There is a reason why I'm building a Locost.

There is no reason that the drives could not be shorter. There is a lot of traffic in the immediate Branson area, as well as innumerable cabins and resorts with their associtated kids, so spirited driving needs to be a few ( 5 to 10 miles) out of downtown Branson.
BobDrye Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Camping anyone? With just a quick check by internet I found camp sites in the area starting @ $12.00 per night.
locost7018 Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 I would be up for camping now that the wife is not working. Russ
