I should add that anytime I am in my Seven, I wear foam ear plugs AND a protective set of noise reducing ear-muffs-purchased at the local hardware store. Like you might use if operating a power saw/lawnmower, etc.

Not that I care, I thought Ohio has a law about head sets on the driver, something about emergency vehicles. It could be a problem on the explanation as to why you are wearing them as well. I do ear plugs on longer drives also.

I checked Ohio traffic law and you are right. Either headphones or ear plugs are illegal & I do both. So far no problems with the law tho. Ditto my practice of not using the mandatory front license plate.

 

I will continue to flaunt the law as preserving what's left of my already age-diminished hearing is important.

 

I have not noticed any problems hearing sirens etc. The system I use cuts the outside noise down to a level probably equivalent to the reduction caused in a normal sedan with the windows up, and air conditioning & radio on.

gee i wonder what the law does when they see a motorcycle with the driver-to-passenger intercom's then? You can wear a helmet that covers the ears...crazy laws. :bs: So much for my intercom with i-pod idea..:nonod:

Excessive bouncing fixed, tires had waaay too much pressure, 25,27,30,30....dropped all to 20 psi and all is well. Shocks and springs are Carreras and are just fine...I should have checked the tires when I picked the car up, didn't realize that excess tire pressure could have such a drastic effect.

The Hushpower is fairly heavy too. Hopefully we will have the new car running next week we will see what she sounds like on the dyno.

 

So did the Hushpower work well?? I'm changing my exhaust very soon and that is one muffler I'm considering....am also thinking of a DNA muffler w/ a Hushpower resonator behind it, sounds like the DNA alone would be too loud for me, but the combo might work well.

I use a DNA truck muffler (longest one) on my Birkin. For the street I have a Supertrapp tip that I slip over and clamp on. It keeps the sound to a reasonable level that I personally don't find too loud. Then when I race autocross I take the tip off and let it flow.

 

It's turned out to be a very good way to go for me.

My Birkin has a large Burns repackable muffler from: http://www.burnsstainless.com/. It was quite loud untill I repacked with S.S. wool. I now have more noise from the TBI's @ YOT. Ear protection helps with that and the air noise @ speed. It is a straight through system with a 2” perforated pipe that allows the sound suppression. I think it is 6” X 23”. It is likely the same as the DNA system. Mine is set-up that you remove 1 bolt and 2 quick release springs and remove it.

I've thought about Supertrapp but read that they cause a lot of backpressure, so I thought maybe a resonater would be better, though I suppose you could use a bunch of discs in this case and minimize it...is your car down on power much with it attached?

I don't notice much in the way of power drop. If............ if there is any it's at the very high end of the RPM range and not a place I spend much time while driving on the street. With the Supertrapp thingie you can vary the amount of backpressure with the number of discs you use. At first I used all of them for the least amount of backpressure. I found it had a bit more bark that I liked so I removed a few and it took the edge off nicely. As I recall I'm running 9 of the 12 discs right now.

 

My system replaces the stock, rear exit Birkin system and either way (with or without tip) it pulls MUCH harder with the new side exit system. I'm sure some of the power gain comes from the shortness of the system. I look forward to seeing how it does on the dyno. I dyno'd the car with the old exhaust and power started to drop off at about 5500 rpms. It felt that way too. It now feels like power builds all the way to cut off. It will be interesting to see if my seat of the pants deal is in line with the dyno.

Thanks very much for the info, that does sound like a good solution, gotta get rid of the stock exhaust as it is way too loud and has a raspy tone
