Caterham/Caged FIA bar forward cant...

I've always suspected the FIA bar was canted forward a bit more than the "r500" style bar I had on the car before.

And now, I can confirm it. My Jill Judd top, which was made for the r500 bar that was on the car initially, no longer fits properly. The top of the bar is about 2 inches in front of where the top of the old bar was.

If anybody wants a slightly used JJ Half Hood (old style), let me know. It works on my car now, but isn't as sano (the wolo 3rd brake light that I worked so carefully to be exposed is now covered again!) as I'd like it to be.

P.S. Although the differences in weight between the r500 bar and the FIA bar (new, x-braced style by Caged) have been noted in the recent weight post, the difference to hand is stunning.

It is unclear to me what you mean about "the difference to hand"... are you referring to the appearance?

Wow, you mean you can "feel" the changes in the balance and/or handling based on the weight difference? I would not have expected that! Wild.

edit -- Nevermind; I get it now. You compared the weight of each while they were out of the car. Duhhh... Sometimes I mis-read things initially.

Sean-

You know another HUGE difference? Rear visibility. That X-brace is smack in the middle of my view!?!

Maybe I should offer the FIA bar to one of the more trackday types out there?!? and kill two birds with one stone (the other bird being the fit of the Jill Judd cover)...

Al,

I never did fit my JJ half hood (I have the FIA roll bar with single crossbar). Not sure it would fit your new set up, but you're welcome to try it and we can come to some arrangement if you decide you want it.

Steve.
