Actually, I believe a fully specced new CSR260 is about the same money as an Atom

Now spec up the Atom and see what the price difference is.

Worked on a test of an Ariel Atom with the 245hp motor for C/D and according to Brammo, it was $60k with all the bits, we also tested a CSR260 and Caterham's price was about $70k ( and that was before the Dollar took a dump).

I have seen the 300hp version of the Atom go for about $70k I believe

Correction: the CSR was $66,500 as tested, but again, that was two years ago

I can remember speccing one out using their online tool and it was $95k (I like my carbon, as you know, Morgan).

BTW, Brammo is no longer doing Atoms...now just electric motorcycles.

And gold plating too apparently LOL

I had heard about Brammo, shame that. I hear they are being produced in Canada now (?)

FWIW, I have a friend who has a 300hp+ supercharged honda powered Atom from the UK (which is little bit lighter than Brammo's car) and he can only really pull away from me (driving your car ;) ) on the longest of straights

I have driven all kinds of exotics, Z06's, Nissan GT-R's etc and up to 70-80mph nothing is as exciting as the 7, and it is not just the acceleration, it is the whole experience which makes it more exhilarating

Personally, I think having more than 200-250hp in these things is a bit absurd on the road, as it is with approx 200hp I have seen off Porsche Turbos, etc. on canyon roads and the car breaks traction at will.

With all due respect to the nutters around here, but more power than that seems only useful if you need to accelerate into the triple digit speeds on a long straightaway, and IMO these cars are more about balance than outright speed. If you are interested in a hard shove in the back more than anything, perhaps you should be looking at Cobra replicas or something

my £.01 ($.02usd)

To paraphrase something Mazda once wrote, "0-60 some other Se7ens might have a chance...60-160 is another story entirely."

I invite you to drive behind a well-driven SuperStalker or perhaps even FrankenSe7en someday. Even at sub 60 mph they are impressive.

Morgan, sounds like you need some wide DOT slicks ASAP.

We have a Stalker owner in Houston that also has an Atom. He purchased a very nice used 3.4L N/A Stalker and found that it was much faster and handled better than his coveted Atom. He still has the Atom but promptly called Dennis Brunton and just took delivery on a turnkey SuperStalker built by Dennis and his crew.

He will have it at the Ambush next week along with his Atom.

Don't really care about 60-160, the roads I drive you can't get much over 60mph on, they are too tight and twisty

And sliding around is half the fun ;)

I spent Thursday afternoon with (2) Electromotive Enginers data logging and tuning my 7 @ 1131 pounds dry. The end result was over 450hp @ 22 lbs. I'll let you convince them that after being able to pull away smoothly from 3rd gear at 600 rpm that it's too much hp.

Thats 2.51 lb/hp or 795 hp/ton! You would be hard put to find anything street legal with that kind of power to weight ratio and damn few race cars either. Too much horsepower is just about right. :D:d:d:d:d

How well does it hook up? I want a ride in that bad boy.

And why would you want to pull away in third gear? How does it put the power down in the first two?

1st gear start is for pulling into the garage.

2nd gear start is for going fast

3rd through 5th gear starts... because he can :D

Probably more like 2nd gear smoke the tires, 3rd gear smoke the tires, 4th gear smoke the tires then pray you can straighten the car out and slow down enough to make the corner http://www.websmileys.com/sm/happy/028.gif

Well you must have some really straight roads where you live then. Where I drive, I would never be able to use that kind of power, the car would end up backwards off a cliff http://www.websmileys.com/sm/crazy/481.gif

My friend who tested the 350hp SR27 for 0-60 mag described in the article that "power and grip are divorced and not on speaking terms" and "terrifying" and he was being kind compared to what he told me over the phone right after he drove it. And this is a guy who navigates in rally cars going 130mph on dirt roads with trees and cliffs whizzing by with a driver who has no self preservation gene.

I prefer a more balanced car, that is why I have always been a fan of Chapmans creations. But to each his own I guess, just be safe ;)

I guess I just don't understand the fear of high power/weight ratio cars. Sure, you can't just floor it coming out of a corner... you have to treat the gas pedal with a little more gentle care. And on occasions where the road does open up, well... it's just plain fun. As long as the power comes on smoothly on a flat torque curve, and doesn't go from falling on its face to stratosphere in 1000 rpm, extra power is not a problem IMO.

:boxing: Perhaps this can be settled in a gentlemanly fashion... say Branson 2009, track day?

I'll be there, but it won't really prove anything that hasn't already been shown. I'll probably be out lapped since I'm a novice. We'll let Loren and Kevin prove the high HP car point :D

That’s the wonderful thing about Se7ens. You can tailor them to what you want. I happen to like the early Lotus Sevens best. That doesn’t mean that I don’t lust after a motorcycle engined Caterham and a Super Stalker.

All I'm sayin' is...I like the fact that some guys are pushing our hobby to the limits. Sometimes beyond reason.

Heck, even Caterham can't resist. Exhibit A: the Levante...

And while I'm sure Orange is serving you well in the canyons Morgan, don't discount any of the big motor boys until you see in person exactly how quick (and fun!) they can be. :D
