banjo29
Ok, here it is again, I was having trouble getting the high quality settings to work on Youtube. So this was my first time on the track with the Ultralite, it did fantastic, although it took me a little while to suppress my fear factor of driving toward the limit in an open car. In the session following this one (which I forgot to record), I was able to stay sandwiched between a 993 Turbo and a 996 GT3 for about 6 laps, so I was pretty happy with that for a first go. In the safer of the hairpins (turn 8, just past the lane lines) I was able to easily get the rear to step out and throttle steer around the turn, what fun! If you actually follow the Youtube link and then click the 'Watch in High Quality' at the lower right of the window, the video is much better, does anyone know how to direct link or embed the HQ Youtube option for a video? powderbrake
Chad, now you are really having fun!! That is what the car was meant for. Did you notice you can change your line, driving closer to the inside, and using less track than when you were driving your other car?
WestTexasS2K
Chad great video, I hope you are beginging to enjoy the Ultralite experience. You are alot like me. I finished my car on friday night and was at the track on Saturday for my first DE weekend. You didnt waste much time hitting the tarmac either. What kind of tires did you go with? What pressures are you running?
banjo29
Jerry- I was experimenting with the line a little bit in the tight switchback, but mostly following the same line to compare with what I'm used to driving. Loren - 235/40/18 PS2's, 22 psi cold. They were hooking up pretty well after a few laps,I could probably drop the pressure a couple pounds though. Kitcat
Prettiest track I have ever seen (and most dangerous-lots of trees & walls to hit if you go off).

PS2 are really good tires, they are really good in the wet. Kevin used them this year for 1 Lap and was very happy with them. I think you will find 18 front 20 rear on pressure work pretty well. I had problems with understeer with over 20 psi on the front. Drop it to 18psi and it drives completely different.
slngsht
Did you notice you can change your line, driving closer to the inside, and using less track than when you were driving your other car? Jerry, no ultralite here, but I know exactly the feeling you're talking about. you dive into the corner the same way as the vette, then realize you dove in too soon, and have to open it up a bit - feeling a bit silly. I'm not quite sure how much of it is because the seven just changes direction much quicker than bigger cars, and how much of it is due to practically sitting on the rear axle of the car. 7evin
Banjo, That rocked..... I couldn't see it in the camera , but I could almost hear your ear to ear smile. Is that not the funnest car you have ever driven? I love it when you pass that porsche. One of my favorite things to do, I also get a great deal of satisfaction passing the vettes. The PS2s were a great choice for the car. Best tire we have ever run. Rock on big dog Cheers 7evin
kitmfgr
Way to go Chad, you did a great job of building your Ultralite Kit and it came out way cool and fast. Keep sending videos and I will add more to our website. Rock On! :hurray:
banjo29
7even - In all fairness, that was Porsche was just a vanilla 911 carrera with a VERY slow driver, the video made it look like more than it was. In the next run however I was able to stay sandwiched between a 997 Turbo and a 997 GT3 for about 8 laps, and we were all moving at a pretty good clip, so I was pretty happy with that for a first day out. Brian - Thanks, I just heard back from the Portland BMW ACA club and I was able to get them to let me run as configured at PIR on 08/25, so I will get some more video there. (First time on the Portland track) There was a Pro photographer at PR when I shot this video, he got some pretty good shots so I ordered the CD of all my shots, let me know if you want any of them for the website, and which ones: Redmist Photo The first page has 7 photos, there are 8 more on the next page. Oh yeah, so what do you think of my front license plate mount? Several cops have seen it and not given me any trouble, so it must be OK. Every time I see a cop, I feel like I'm driving something that should be illegal (go-kart on steroids) it's a strange feeling...
