That sounds about right. You're at $50k+ then add engine core and gearbox, and if you can't assemble the engine yourself you need to add in their competitively priced "Engine Dressing" service. Oh plus delivery charge, And unless you are into polishing aluminum, paint is another $$1300++ and of course you're going to want to add the Widetrack front end, and then adjustable spring perches. Then how about the FIA roll bar. Of course you're going to want the '7" grille. And you haven't even talked about any carbon... Come on you can do better and get that price up there much higher, you're just not trying hard enough. ;>)

Sorry, I forgot to figure in the shipping cost of the gearbox from England. Thats really going to break the bank!!!!

 

I'm guessing well over 62K and that's for a Roadsport SV. And that assumes you're going to asssemble the kit yourself, otherwise, what are they charging now to assemble it for you? $2-3K???

 

I ordered my Superlight with an R speced engine (=to the R400) back in 2000 and prices don't seem too different.

My 2009 SV is about $ 70,000 including shipping, tax, duty, and assembly. I ordered mine in January 2008 when the dollar was worthless against the pound. The exchange rate works in your favor now so don't wait too long.

I plan on buying a used duratec online for around $550 and putting the engine together myself. I'll also do the paint. I'll probably add the superlight suspension for another $1,216. Hopefully they can ship the transmission w/ the kit so I don't have to pay the transatlantic shipping. Then I need to figure out how much the shipping to Alaska is. Since I'll be building the engine I might as well replace the bearing, rods and pistons. F2USA has a package that's $945. Also replace the various torque to yield bolts w/ ARP bolt for another $302. So that's a grand total of $57,668 minus painting supplies and shipping costs. If I can get a loan for the whole amount I can save $3500 w/ the exchange rate discount.

Once you get your Seven, where are you going to drive it in Juneau, Alaska, anyway?? That'll become the lowest-mileage Seven on the Continent.....

 

I am assembling my Seven (slowly) in Colorado, ands plan to drive it to Anchorage (quickly) next summer.

 

There are already two Sevens that I know of in Alaska; a yellow SV in Anchorage (Jim O'Malley), and a red and silver S3 in North Pole (Peter Marshall). No Seven-types by other makers, that I'm aware of.

I plan on taking a roadtrip to anchorage after its built, I have some family there. I currently have an 2004 Subaru WRX and it has 44k miles, so I do drive around a bit. I've been to Anchorage 2 times w/ it. Those frost heaves are a killer when you hit them at 80-90mph, we lifted off our seats when we hit those.

There are two Stalker V6's being built in Alaska; one in Fairbanks by Richard Kemp and another in North Pole by Sterling Muth. I don't think either of these individuals are active on this forum.

Hopefully I can get a kit ordered by the end of this year or by next year. I need to pay off some debts and finish building the garage for it. So far only have the foundation dug for it. Hopefully I'll have it done by the end of the summer. Its a 16' by 28' metal building. I'm building it specifically for the seven.

If you bring your Seven to Anchorage, maybe we could organize an "Alaska Seven-type tour!" At the max, we could have perhaps 6 participants, which would be 100 percent of the Seven-type population in Alaska....

Alaskaossie, is it difficult to get your seven titled/registered? I haven't looked into it yet. Also I'm trying to get my cousin to build a factory-five GTM, so he'd probably like to know how to get that registered and titled too.

Just out of curiousity, how are you getting a loan for a Caterham? (unless you're taking out a home equity loan) I'd have one by now if I could finance even a fraction of the cost. As it is, I have just a bit more to save.

 

One other point of clarification, customs duties are now included in the prices on the Caterham USA site. Here's the line from the site:

 

"Prices include all shipping, customs and fees for delivery from Caterham factory to Caterham USA in Denver, CO. Price does not include domestic delivery charges."

I plan on getting a home equity loan. Our house is already paid off, so I might as well use it for something. Thanks I thought I read that somewhere, so a $60k loan should cover all the costs I hope.
