Club Officer Elections

Okay it has been two short quick years and the time is on us again for a USA7s national meet. It is hard to believe it was just over 4 years ago a few of us gathered for a drive in the Virginia country side and the idea for USA7s was created. (Unfortunately I had to cut the day short and did not do the whole drive but a few came back with the idea and made this all happen.) USA7s has grown to just shy of 1000 list members and over 120 premiere members. It has taken some doing but we are finally getting some discount offers in place, our second national meet is less than a month away, and USA7s.org has become the premier site in North America for all things related to our LSiS cars.

As the club bylaws state we will hold our officer elections every two years in conjunction with the national meet. So it is time to elect our officers for the next two years. We will have a vote during the national meet in Birmingham, but we have also made the decision to have online voting available to paying members. You will be able to vote once per paid user name. Online voting will be open from 12:01 PM May 28, 2009 until 12:00 noon May 30, 2009.

If you wish to put your hat in for any of the officer positions please post your desire here and for what position. You may also want to do your quick campaign speech in that post also. USA7s operates with three officers a President, Treasurer, and Secretary.

Thank you,

John Viviani

President USA7s.org

I will add that I've always thought that any of the officer positions might be a great fit for someone without the time constraints of A) a day job, and B) younger children.

Also, note that the job of organizing meets, national-scale or otherwise, does not necessarily fall in the lap of the officers...

As Al and I have talked about this. I am stepping back from Club President. I had many personal distractions the last couple of years and did not do the job I should have. I let you down. Al has always been looked on as the leader of the club and the role suits him so he has my vote also.

I am tossing my hat in for club secretary. I think this role will better suit me and allow me to get to know club members a little better. As part of my new role (if elected) I want to attempt the newsletter again and work on expanding our sponsor base, hopefully allowing more member benefits in the future.

All, I'm stepping down as treasurer. I will continue to administer the forum.

I think it's important to have members step up to become officers of the club, as new blood brings more vigor, fresh views, etc... It also helps the long term potential of the organization compared to when the same people run it year after year.

It will be odd not being involved in club operations, but will be rewarding to see it grow due to involvement of others who share the same passion.

4 hats in daring

David, I have sent you a PM, and posted here. Need to open a poll today. Whichever position you are running for will require a poll. Other positions will be unopposed. Please notify me ASAP.

I would also say Rob and David need to post something about what they can offer to the club. Not an issuse if running unopposed, but since there are 4 of us now...

I made my case on page 1 near the bottom.

Here's what's been on my mind for the club going forward:

– Its seems to me like the local regional meets are really the "life blood" of the club. So I think we should do a better job of helping regional coordinators (whether official or unofficial) put together their events...and more often.

– I still think it's good to try to have a national-level meet every few years, but I think expectations can be toned down for that...very hard to get people to drive thousands of miles if the meet isn't central and even then, at least a week's commitment. Not to mention the work it requires from the organizers.

– I would like to work more closely with the manufacturers to help the club be a real conduit for getting newbies into cars...pro-builts, kits, or even home builts. The site/forum is turning into a first-tier hub/clearinghouse for people who are interested in LSiS vehicles, and we should help people connect with the car/maker that is right for them.

– On that last point, I would like to develop the site/forum to be an even better resource for newbies. With some content pages about the history of the Seven and profiles of the various current manufacturers. Since I'm a writer by trade, I can take a stab at penning these and then handle it "wiki-style" so that people can edit/add.

– Additionally, I think this will finally be the year to get a searchable club database set up so that members can find members, and newbies can find members, etc. All controlled somehow, so people's privacy is respected.

– And finally, I want to reiterate that this club was founded to be an inclusive club. So that no matter what marque you have, you are welcome here. And everyone needs to contribute to that feeling of welcome. Meeting some of the 7-7-7 crowd here, and even spending time with guys like Ed H....who was only at 7-7-7 for a day, but who has run How the West was Driven in 2005 and joined some of the trips organized by Gert and company...just a reminder that in addition to the little cars, it's the people that make the club great.

That's about it for now. Headed over the see John at the museum soon.

Now that I have my car on the road . .. again .. it's time for some drives around Atlanta .. so I look forward to organizing those ..

As far as being a Treasurer .. I'm an honest guy .. As I (and most) can afford to have one of these cars) there should be no fear of embezzeling from the firm :)

Of course if someone else has a greater desire to be Treasurer .. that's OK with me .. I just think it's time that I give something to the organization .. and I think that I can commit to being Treasurer.

Plus I have made a presence on this website from the very beginning when Mazda and I just talked about Rotus 7s.

Don't want to vote or run for office (did 4 years on a non-profit board, my hats off to any and all who can give up the time it takes to do it right) but would like to pay my way as this board has been areal help to me already. couldn't find it on the home page links but then again my wife says I can't find anything.
