some blood and a few hours later the oem miata manifold is finally out. also we picked the location of the turbo and planned how the cooling plumbing will look.

updates,

so we have planned out how we are going to plumb water and coolant to the turbo. also planning on rerouting the thermostat to the back of the head in the future for more efficient coolant flow.

the turbo header is also growing. there seems to be less room then we previously estimated so now the turbo will be mounted on some funky angle and hopefully it will clear the frame and hood. im not extremely excited about the way ports 1 and 3 will flow because of the piping but i think for how much flow i will require it will be fine. also im told that in the joints where it splits 4 ports to 2 ports the diameter of the pipe being used is smaller and better... something about decreasing the size of the piping causing the exhaust to increase in speed. im still shooting for pull boost at 2700-2800rpm.

WOW..... What a project.... And I thought I had no room under our hood....

U da Man Roman u da man....

You might want to reroute that oil line just underneat the waste gate rod. It might get to

hot where it is located. Awesome project..

Are you going to ceramic coat that header to keep the heat in it?

after a few delays we are back on track

done since last pics:

~ turbo header completer, exhaust side now pointing straight into the exhaust system.

~ cut 1/4 inch off top and bottom of the intercooler

~ ran turbo oil feed line

~ made/installed egr block off plate

~ welded up new thermostat housing (no longer in front!)

~ cut/ rewelded water outlet

~ turbo exhaust flange has been started

~ flange made for water on turbo and fitting installed

~ figured out how all my coolant and oil will be flowing

~ ordered all silicone hose (blue), alum piping, clamps (t bolt?), and new coolant hose (blue). no skip im not trying to copy off of you... but red seems to be harder to get then i expected.

to do:

~ finish exhaust flange to exhaust pipe

~ cut trim the intake manifold to fit the next item on the list

~ weld new outlet onto radiator (coolant will flow out of the back of the motor, around the intake manifold side of the motor, across the top of the radiator and into the new flange. reason for this is that there is to much pluming going on on the left and i dont want coolant running neat the turbo header.

~ weld piping onto the two aluminum flanges shown bolted on (bends need to be rather tight, so we rather weld then use hoses)

im sure there is more....

I think you need to get rid of the blue logo on the radiator

and make it say EviL R instead...

Silly 7evin, the radiator is hidden behind the intercooler! He needs to put Evil R on the intercooler. :D

Yah, I used to have a turbo that was full boost at 2600 rpm. Boy did that make the car sqirly. It just came on boost to soon before the car had built up speed and spooled to fast. What a mess. Made the car fun to drive, but not fun to drive all in the same. Lag is your friend when it comes to traction. I now run a 57 mm turbo that see's full boost at 4400 rpm and the car is SO much better to drive. I would never go back to a small turbo in this particular car. Then people say " well what about the lag". Huh? These cars are so light they scoot right along even with no boost. That would be like saying putting a big turbo on a viper some how GAVE IT "lag".....yah, I guess if you call 400 lb feet torque at 2100 rpm lag. Remember you can't take away from the fact the viper made that power before the turbo was even introduced, same with our little lotus's. Even in N/A they are quick....

Once your done with your set-up you will have to let us now how the traction is with a small turbo. Glad I got away from that nightmare.
