half doors

Recommended Posts

Bruce,

I use the half doors/screens on my Caterham if I am not using the full doors. The half doors help by taking the blast of air from the rear fenders and direct it away from your face. They also help keep the small stones and sand from coming into the cockpit.

Bruce, they are the best thing on my car. I use them every time the temp is below 70. It keeps my left arm from being cold and stiff and reduces wind blast from the side.

I have never seen half doors before - how do they attach? Do they use the same press studs for the tonneau and/or the hinge for the full size sidescreens?

Mary made a set from "sunbrella". My se7en has outside snaps anyways, so these are basically just a piece of material made to fit the opening with snaps to match. She also sewed a small pocket into them. The work great! They only weigh a few OZ's each, and i could almost fold them up into a pants pocket when the are not being used. They kep out the rocks and i like the way they look on the se7en. it's a win win win situation

Due to my low skill level, I just cut the standard side screens off below the windows. The original protruding rear area for elbow room helps while driving. There isn’t enough room for autoX events though. This was after I purchased another weather kit from another Birkin owner.

I only had half doors and liked the fact that it kept your elbows out of the spray.

They use snaps to attach, but we modded mine so that it used quarter turn fasteners at the front end...they were prone to popping off due to the curve of the car...

I own a Birkin S3 I have heard the Caterham half doors fit is this correct.

Cheers

Yes, they fit well. I bought a new set that didn't have the poppers installed yet, and did them myself so they match up with the Birkin studs.

Yes love half doors. As someone else here has already mentioned, I made mine from the original full doors ( only because I really could not justify the price that some companies want for these). Keeps me a bit warmer and stop a lot of the crap from the kickup off the front wheels from getting in the car.

Well worth fitting them in my view.
