Tire size question

Recommended Posts

The wheels are 15 X 6.5 with Avon CR 500 tires. I just bought the car on eBay. I overpaid a bit but the car is exactly what I had been looking for (and dreaming about). As I write, the car is winging its way from VA to my home in CT. Can't wait to drive it.http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/3/9/5/0/4/3/webimg/275486239_o.jpghttp://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/3/9/5/0/4/3/webimg/275486265_o.jpghttp://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/3/9/5/0/4/3/webimg/275486300_o.jpghttp://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/3/9/5/0/4/3/webimg/275486385_o.jpg

Welcome Sean, nice looking ride! I'm a little partial to the bare ali, BRG, yellow nose cone look! :)

I think CR500's have a pretty good reputation for a mostly road with some track use tire. I think on the Cats they come with 195 x 15" size in either 45 or 50 profile (I can't remember which). They are also pretty expensive so unless they're old and hard, I'd use them for a while and wear them out! :driving: I think you'll find that a Seven doesn't need really big tires unless you're traction limited with huge amounts of hp! I replaced my original 195/50x15 Firestone tires with 205/50x15 tires to be able to get a better selection of tires and to get a little taller gearing on the highway. I think you could fit 205's on a 6.5" rim if you decided to go with a taller/wider tire.

Where abouts in Ct are you? There are a few local Seven owners that try to get together occasionally, just to go for a drive and to hang out. We always have room for another Seven! :)

I bought the car from Tom O. in Marshall, VA and I split my time between Manchester, CT and Weekapaug, RI . I'd love to hear from any 7 owners in the area to find out when they get together

The Avon CR500 195/45-15 is a good tire for road and track. They are light and wear well. The alternate choice is Toyo R888 195/50-15 if you are track oriented. Yoko does not ship their 195/50-15 A048 to the USA. Bridgestone RE11and Hankook Rs2 are available in 195/50-15.

Looks like you have the same basic car as I do, along with the mighty Kent Crossflow engine.

How can you overpay for a dream?

I agree about tires-it all depends on how old/hard they are. The biggest bang for the the "up-graditis" bucks I have spent in 2+ years of ownership was for a fresh set of rubber, replacing the 10 year old Michelin's the car came with. I went with track oriented Toyo RA1's. They are very sticky and have worn great, in spite of soft rubber. Our lightweight cars are very easy on tires/brakes. But sticky tires throw up a lot of stones, so they will cause a certain amount of road rash to your rear fenders and deposit a larger amount in your lap. Well worth it to me.

Hi Bruce:

Did you have any trouble registering the Cat with CT DMV? I'm just curious as to what kind of grief I may be in for.

Thanks,

Sean

Check out the following thread. Some people had it easier than I did, but I got it done in the end. The nice thing is there's no emissions testing req'd in CT: http://www.usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?t=2716

wow, im late in the game.

first id like to welcome you to the elite group of people who own 7's and to this forum.

if your wheel is a 6.5" you should be able to use a 205 tire no problem. i recall my old 92 vw corrado came stock with 15x6.5 wheels and 205x50x15 tires.

here is a pic of what that size looks like.
