xflow7
Seems like every internet forum needs a thread about musical tastes, artists, albums, concerts, etc. So what are your favorites? I'm mostly into progressive rock and jazz. Some current fav. artists (in no particular order) are: Prog: Porcupine Tree Echolyn Jethro Tull Enchant IQ (a recent thing with the acquisition of the Dark Matter album) Mike Keneally / Beer for Dolphins Genesis Kevin Gilbert Steely Dan Jazz: Chick Corea Dizzy Gillespie Arturo Sandoval John Coltrane Dave Brubeck Concerts in the last couple of years: 2 x Chick Corea Elektric Band (mind-bogglingly good) Bela Fleck and the Flecktones Bela Fleck / Stanley Clarke / Jean-Luc Ponty (also mind-bogglingly good) Preservation Hall Jazz Band Porcupine Tree Fairport Convention Maynard Ferguson Newport Jazz Festival (missed Arturo though, dammit) Davexflow72006-12-31 10:57:
slngsht
Mostly 60s through 80s rock... van halen, etc... Some Louis Armstrong thrown in there, along with Fitzgerald... The Rotus really likes van halen. for some reason she starts rolling downhill when that comes on. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/leaving.gif
yellowss7
Late 60's & 70's rock in general, The Who and Neil Young in particular. Greenday and Smashmouth in the somewhat current genre. Wife and kids say I'm stuck in the 70's. Guess the 7 confirms it. Last concert: Steppenwolf with Foghat as the warm up act earlier this year. John Kay at 60+ years old still Rocks! Nice guy, came out after the concert to have pictures taken with the concert goers. Announced that this would be the last tour. 40 years on the road was enough. Birkinpilot
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones I was at a Flectones concert many years ago, and Victor Wooten played "The Christmas Song" all by himself. I've never heard it done as beautifully. It was awesome.

Great show. Kind of a shame that they seemed to kind of implode finally. Although I suppose purists would say the end of VH was died when DLR left the first time. I like both Armstrong and Fitzgerald. It's very hard not to smile and feel good listening to either of them. He played something similar, maybe Silent Night, when I saw them and it was fabulous. He guested with the Elektric Band when I saw them the second time and was superb also. One of my friends is fond of saying, "There are two kinds of bassists in this world; Victor Wooten, and guys who aren't as good as Victor Wooten." http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/smile5.gifxflow72006-12-31 14:05:
xflow7
the dulcid tones of Busa Exhaust ... Sweet! Point taken. I suppose all of us would list our car's engine note. Mmmmm...DCOE's roaring at full chat on a cool, dry, fall evening. Superb. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/hurray.gif
Al N.
I had a post all written, then it bounced me out! I listen to a lot of just about everything, except for Country and anything too hard/unmelodic (pretty much anything with screaming in it is out). Favorite album of all time would probably be the John Coltrane/Johnny Hartman, with the Coltrane/Monk Carnegie concert a close second, just barely nudging Kind of Blue to third spot. I listen to a lot of contemporary rock/alt./rap too — staying away from teen pop and dance stuff. The Raconteurs, Radiohead, and Broken Social Scene get mixed in with Kanye West and Jay-Z. I'm also no stranger to classical/orchestral music, and have a few versions of Copland's Appalachian Spring on both vinyl and CD.

I've got all the Terry Kath Chicago and The Doors on CDs. I've been to Jim's grave in Paris twice! After a concert, I high-fived Bela and hugged Future Man! http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/biggrin5.gif Rob Mitchell, Atlanta, GA solder_guy2007-01-02 11:51:

I just got it recently after a friend told me about it. The other one I got not long ago that is really good is the Jazz at Massey Hall concert with Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Charles Mingus, Bud Powell, and Max Roach. Talk about a line-up... Kind of Blue is also a favorite of mine. Truly a must-have album.
