powderbrake
see: http://www.amctv.com/originals/the-prisoner/ Looking at the cars, it seems there are no Lotus Sevens. And they say Nov 15, 16 and 17 for the first few episodes Edited October 23, 2009 by powderbrake
solder_guy
I just saw that Comcast Cable has the original 17 episodes ON Demand!
wallisek
http://blogs.amctv.com/the-prisoner-cars-photos/ caption says "Six's NYC car". You have got to be kidding me. A Subaru? A SUBARU? What in the hell are these producers thinking? No 6 has to drive a 7. I don't care if it isn't the traditional BRG / Yellow nose combo, even a flat black with cycle fenders would be nice. I suspect this will be another one of Hollywood's fine examples of how to screw up a great classic. A Subaru........I want to cry.

Hank
It's all about sponsors nowadays. I bet Subaru sponsored the show and a lot of the commercials. Maybe if Westfield or Caterham had sponsored the show it would have been a seven in the spotlight. Sucks, I know.

They have put a WRX as the female cop's ride in the show "Eureka" on the syfy network.
spotcheck
I just saw that Comcast Cable has the original 17 episodes ON Demand! Hey - Doc - you drying out any? Hope things have been going better for you than they were. Yep - on demand, but for free. SWMBO and I have been snagging one or two each night for the past few days - gotta get thru them before "Gandalf as #2" starts. Be seeing you. sparecr
My Tivo is showing that starting on 11/2 AMC has a short 15 minute thingee on the new Prisoner a preview.
gjslutz
I have seen a few reruns and couldn’t get into the show at all. I also didn’t get into Seinfield, 24 or some other hit shows. I liked the look of the 58 Chevrolet better than the 57 also. I sold my like new 3,300 mile 427 AC Cobra in 1971 for $10K to buy a Pantera. I also was able to loose money in the market, when others were doing double digit gains. I never was a follower, too bad, as now I’m just another poor old senior. solder_guy
The Prisoner .. starts this Sunday on AMC. The 15 minute preview will be rebroadcast at 0230 EST. (seeing the VCR right now) I've been playing my old Prisoner soundtrack CDs in preparation for some weirdness. Kitcat
gjs: It wld be nice to have that AC Cobra back! I am trying to conjure up some sympathy on that but I am also an old geezer and, while you were ripping around in Cobras and Panteras (wow!), I was in a clapped out Fiat 128 that was prone to electrical fires. NY Times says new Prisoner series is not very faithful to the original version, either in details or concept. Nothing a good R500 wouldnt fix:). Boxologist
i hope there is a major change at teh end that saves it. I can imagine a good one. Thankfully, the changes will not diminish the original series in my eyes!
spotcheck
I really liked the first 2 episodes last night. Ian McKellan is one of the truly great still-living actors. It had a number of references - some obvious, some more subtle - to the original. I howled when he asked the shop owner if he had a larger map. It also had the "whisky-tango-foxtrot?" quality of the original, plus a different structure that added to it - a lot of people are curious if there really is a "somewhere else". Of course, that could be the hook that i just swallowed. Be seeing you.
Al N.
Was there a car at all in the pilot? That will determine whether or not I watch it.
athens7
No car, not much story, and little or no acting, other than Ian playing Ian. It took AMC an hour to set the stage, something that the original did in the approx. 3 minutes prior to the credits of the premiere episode. And what was with the little "mini-previews" of the upcoming segment at each commercial break? Do we have such a short attention span that we can't wait 2 minutes to see what's going to happen next? To AMC's credit, at least the now commonplace promo for another show on the bottom 1/3rd of the screen while the current show is running was missing. I'm surprised the guy from Mad Men didn't keep popping up in the corner! How about a pool with bets on whether the new show airs 17 episodes, or more, or less? Kitcat
I think the new show is scheduled for just 6 episodes.
Boxologist
yes, just 3 nights of 2 x 1 hour epsiodes. I did like 93's outfit and room decor. there were some minor homages to the original series. we'll see where the next 2 nights go.
solder_guy
I taped the episodes .. and this afternoon watched them with my wife .. we just FF through the coming scenes and commercials. That "do-whap" song played in the second hour when Six was tied to a stake with a grenade in his mouth was from Beach Boy, Brian Wilson's SMILE CD that came out just a few years ago. My CD is somewhere .. ? I liked seeing 93's coat and Lava Lamp. The Rover weather balloon still wigs me out .. What is missing is the Cold War theme .. "Whose side are you on?" .. so the writer had to make it just head games. It's still weird enough for me to continue taping tonight .. Friday's NYTimes had a full ad for the show .. that alone costs $65k. With all the publicity I would be willing to bet that that they have made more than 6 episodes. I still expect to see a ref to KAR120C somewhere .. maybe just the license plate .. as the Seven was such a part of the original series .. spotcheck
Excellent. Loved it. Not a remake, but a re-imagination, with the odd homage/references to the original, plus other societal and sci-fi themes thrown in. But, no car in the intro. How dare they? Orwell + 1984? Its worse than that. Summakor not only watches, but controls. Original Star Trek and TNG had episodes about a parallel universe. Nope - it's more subtle than that - parallel levels of consciousness, and we live in all of them simultaneously, and Summakor can monitor and control them all. And - with respect, there was more good acting than just Ian McKellan (but he was certainly the best). Way more good acting than the original. And there wasn't the general explanation in the intro - which was their point. It wasn't until the middle of the last episode that they provided enough information to understand what/why happened to Six that took him to the Villiage. Wasn't as simplistic as in 1968 -they are assuming we are more sophisticated 40 years later. Six is The One. But - consistent with an underlying theme of the original - even he was co-opted, but this time in two different levels of consciousness. McKellan is out (I am assuming) but it is possible for them to add new episodes with Caviezel in his role as Two, and 313 as The Dreamer. Be seeing you.
