andrew7
I know our Sevens are quick, but sometimes I need a reference. Here is a 1600cc Focus engine in a 1100# car and its able to keep up with a 550 hp GT. The little Ford has 400 less HP, with no front or rear wings and it still beats it on the track. S1Steve
Hi Andrew, I had a older Formula Ford, and I drove a GT on the street. I'll take a FF all the time, they are neat cars. Even with a Cortina, it would keep up cars with much more HP. And they are great cars to learn with, big rewards for driving nice. Great Vid , It has me smiling remembering the good days I spent with my FF. GT was a very tight fit for me. GT40 was a friends, he sold it after a year. jwduncan
Andrew, Thanks for sharing the video. I've always had a soft spot for formula fords. On the track they can produce very quick overall laps times that many high performance, wildly expensive cars can't touch. Steve, I completely agree. I ran a '77 Zink Z-10C on the east coast in the MARRS series through the 90s. Definitely some of my fondest car memories.
Croc
I learned to race in an Elfin Formula Ford in Australia. Wonderfully rewarding car to drive. I would probably not fit in a FF anymore. Good living has taken a toll! Still I do get turned on by the GT - I would just go for one of the GT40 replicas by CAV before the modern GT by Ford. This video isn't real surprising though. As soon as aero starts coming into play at the higher speeds, the FF just cant keep up with the power of the GT. There's a huge difference between slicks and road tires as well.

I sold it in 2000 and tried to keep track of it's whereabouts for a while. I do know that it changed hands twice and a few year ago, I saw it at a regional Summit Point event. Tom Smith, who was a fellow CF racer back when I was racing, owned it the last time I saw the car. Tom lives in NJ and I could dig up his address if you're interested in trying to track him down. Do they get many club fords out for races on the west coast these days? The numbers in the DC region are down in the single digits.
