chaithsc
Hi Everyone. I must say I have been reading these forums for a long time no. I would look day in and day out at the listings on the cars for sale thread, drool and dream every time I saw a Caterham/lotus. I have wanted to build one since I was 10 years old. As luck would have it, my fiance (who knew about my crazy obsession with cars) decided to buy me a kit as a wedding present. Yeah! I know I am lucky . So now I have a kit sitting in the garage. Hopefully I will be able to finish building it before the summer and get it registered. Please feel free to give me any advice on the assembly as I am embark on this passage to driving nirvana. Also, if any one in the bay area wants to lend me a hand in the build process, please let me know. Thanks Chaits

chaithsc
Trust me - I know the feeling of wanting one. If only I can make the time to finish building the car as soon as possible.

JohnCh
Welcome Chaits! What are the specs of your new build? -John
jimrankin
Hi Chaits, There seem to be quite a few 7's, of several different makes, in the Bay Area. No matter which kit your putting together looking at as many of them as you can will give you a lot of ideas and more importantly keep you from doing something you thought was a good idea and found out later had been tried and was not. Also some strange "California DMV" requirements that you may want to plan for in your build. Getting a WCM S2K "California Legal" in San Mateo at the moment. chaithsc
@Todo Let me know if I can help in anyway. I did plenty of research to identify the right kit for me @scannon She does have a brother but alas no sister . That's really nice caterham you have there. I can not wait to finish building mine @JohnCh I got the CATERHAM R300 (I think by default they have the SV chassis). I have considered any upgrades yet but from what I hear from people, I am going to get a serious case of upgraditis soon. Do you have any suggestions for transmission on the suggested ford motor (that is the only thing pending) @jimrankin I got the SB100 this year. so I think once I have completed the kit, I should be able to get it registered. Let me know how it goes for you. San Mateo is were I work. I would love to see that '58Jag XK150 (drool)
JohnCh
Nice car! The R300 should be the S3 by default, with the SV as an option. I have a BGH long 1st gear HD transmission coupled to a 3.62 rear end. The stock 1st gear in a Type-9 is absolutely useless and results in a pretty big gap between 1st and 2nd. BGH also does some very nice close ratio boxes that tighten the gaps between the other gears, but they are optimized for the 3.92 rear end, so something to keep in mind. BGH is great to deal with, but shipping costs from the UK are insane. Not sure if there are now better options for those of us on this side of the pond. -John
jimrankin
Chaits, The SS, XK and the trailer reside in my Milpitas warehouse at the moment but the S2K is at my house in SM so I can play/work with it when I get the chance. Your more than welcome to come see what I'm doing most any time.

chaithsc
@Johnch Yeah you are right the default is the 'S3'. but i got the SV so I have the 'S5'. @Jimrankin I will definitely take you up on that offer once I have finished building my kit @southwind25 Thanks! So, I was fitting the ARB and the assembly guide says that you have to fit the inner radiator cowl first. I couldn't find the bobbins or understand the assembly. Can anyone clarify this for me or post pictures. Thanks in advance. Chaithsc
