Spaz Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 A few night ago went out to the garage, and lifted the motor out all alone. That wasn't too bad and my back has yet to hurt. Now it is time to pull "that box" from base and start prepping it. I just need to bring "that box" up from basement when the wife is not around, she does not know I stored the replacement motor in the furnace room.

Had to replace my motor a while back and found it to be relaxing and fun even though it is a lot of work and expense...:cooldude:...
slngsht Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 don't hurt your back... not worth it. wait for help.

lancylad Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 If (She who must be obeyed) doesn't know about IT, when she does find out, she may turn into, The Short Angry One.:toetap05: Good luck. Cant wait to hear what IT is you are putting in there.

Found out last night the wife has know what is in the box in the basement. She just choose to ignore it. The motor is just a stock CBR 900 RR replacement for the motor that has a nice viewing window in the block. Next step is to take the up-rate clutch, adapter driveshaft thingy off the old and put on the new motor, and add my nice new baffle plate so this hopefully doesn’t happen again.
Dave W Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 Josh Before you put in the baffles, get a section of piano hinge. Then add a few holes to the bottom of the baffles, then screw the hinge over them so it allow the oil to flow towards the oil pick-up screen while cornering. You do not want to do this again. could get a little $$$ Dave W
Hank Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 Dry sump it! http://hanksmegabusa.com/images/121508/03.jpg
Spaz Posted March 20, 2010 Author Posted March 20, 2010 Hank, I would love to dry sump it, but that is a bit over my locost budget. The guys that race in the 750 Motor Club, RGB Class C (Carb'ed Fireblades) say you are good to go with just a plate and overfill the oil just a little bit. Also I do not have overall height of the engine problem.
Dave W Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 A PM has been sent, I could not find any pictures of the baffle/sump design the link. http://www.abperformance.co.uk Dave W
Dave W Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 I replied directly to you before I looked on the forum. This explains the design. It's a tray type. That should work pretty good. Thanx for the picture Dave
Spaz Posted March 25, 2010 Author Posted March 25, 2010 Took the oil pan off last night. Look what I found: I think this is why the motor went Pop!
Dave W Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 That's just the plastic pieces in the pick up, I bet you find a lot more in a complete stripe down. Any idea what it is from? Dave W
Spaz Posted March 26, 2010 Author Posted March 26, 2010 My guess is it is Permatex High-Temp Red RTV Silicone Gasket that came down from the valve cover. I have not had time to open up the valve cover to make sure. But I think this is what happened when one gets a little to heavy handed with the Silicone Gasket.
