I have a 1971 Super 7 Series 4 Twin Cam (possibly 1558cc). I would like to put in an electronic distributor. Does anyone know what will fit without too much modification.

I've had good luck with a Pertronix Ignitor in my '64 MGB. Been installed for appr 15 years without any issues. I think they have applications for most Lucas distributors (23D, 45D, etc), and I think they have complete new distributors to replace the Lucas unit as well. I do keep a spare breaker plate/points/condensor in the trunk just in case. :)

Thanks for the info. I will check if they have a website. Almost impossible to get to the distributor with the Webers hanging over it, but I see I have to get a number off of it to continue my search. I hope the distributor can be removed without removing the Webers.

Call one of the Lotus specialists. Dave Bean, RD Enterprises, JAE, Sports Car World and they can tell you what are the best current options.

I've been running a Lumenition system, basically a breakerless device that substitutes a light beam and "chopper" for the points for more than 20 years in my Twincam. It's been spot-on reliable.

Look around a bit for more feedback regarding Petronix as I've read some not always positive comments about their hardware.

Even though I still have points .. I've thought about a electronic transistor device to cut down on the amount of current going through the points ..

You have several options that will fit without much modification:

Aldon

Petronix

Lumenition

Crane

Mallory

Piranha

Just make sure you check your timing chain once in a while. It'll be a long time before you need to fiddle with the distributor again.

I thought that Crane went out of business earlier this year
