Birkin for sale

Just got this note from a friend of mine who lives a couple of miles from me and belongs to our local Lotus Lovers group here in Indianapolis. This is a very nice car that has always been garaged and well cared for. Hate to see Tony sell it but if you read his note you all will certainly understand. He is replacing it with a new Lotus Evora, which is a bit more family friendly.

"Folks,

The time has come for me to part with my Birkin. We recently adopted a

little girl, and the Birkin does not "fit" in my world right now. I hope to

sell it to someone who can fully enjoy it. I have owned this car since new,

it drives very well.

1999 Birkin, 25,250 miles; full weather gear, purple wings & nosecone

1997 Zetec

SPC close ratio gearbox

Quaife limited-slip differential

Emerald ECU with mapping software

Jenvey throttle bodies

Wide-band lambda sensor (Innovate LC-1) installed; software included

Fuel Safe Birkin-bespoke fuel cell; foam replaced last month

5-point harnesses for both driver & passenger

Extra set of fiberglass wings (need paint to match)

Custom Trailer built by Dennis Brunton

Full history of invoices for parts and service

$22,000 or best offer for the car, trailer, & other stuff.

the archives)

Should sell fast at that price as it is a nice looking 7.

How big is the fuel cell in this car? I'm interested in it's touring range.

Any performance numbers for this car w/ regards to 0-60 or 1/4 mile?

What state of tune is the engine in? HP/TQ?

Thanks, and GL with the sale.

Which Zetec engine is this?

ZX 1...2.0 liters hydraulic lifters Ford Contour to 1997.

ZX 2...2.0 litres, solid lifters Exhaust valve timing variable. It has a bump for the sensor on the valve cover above cyl #1. Found in Contour late 97 up, Ford Escort ZX2 Coupes, Mercury Cougar.

ZX 3....2.0 litres, solid lifters. (Ford Focus ZX3)

JBanker,

Do you have additional details of the build? Engine Specs? Thanks.

I'm finally back on USA7s, so I can answer for myself. It's a stock 1997 Zetec, some folks call it a ZX1; all the upgrades are external. Emerald ECU, Jenvey throttle bodies, Raceline oil sump and water rail.

The fuel cell was a group buy from Fuel Safe, a batch specially made for the Birkins. It is the same size and shape as the stock fuel tank in order to maximize capacity. The stock tank is about 10 gallons. I've never measured how much capacity is lost, but I'd reckon it holds about 8 gallons.

I've never done any timed acceleration runs in the car.

Thanks for posting it here for me, Jack, and for the kind words.

I have the same fuel cell and when filling from empty it holds about 9 gallons. Usable volume is maybe 8 gallons because it does not suck from the very bottom as well as it won't fill to the very top. When touring I usually I fill up latest after 150 -180 miles.
