bike running behind a seven at the ring

Would have been interesting to see how the Seven would have fared if the bike had been leading.

What I'd really like to see is a clip like that with a Seven and a Cobra to silence my Cobra loving buddies who scoff at my plans to build an Ultralite. They just cant get past the 4 cylinder engine and all the arguing about power to weight falls on deaf ears.

If math is correct and I am assuming that the digital read out on the R1 is in Kilometers per hour (208) the speed that the Seven was going at one point was about 129.20 mph and averaged just at 115.53 mph around that track.

Very very impressive especially with two people in the Seven.

The driver must really know that track as the car drove a better line that the R1 from what I could see.

Mike:

Have your buddy pick up a copy of the latest Kit Car magazine, it lists some of the times for the sevens and the Cobras at Run N Gun 2006.

Note the 1st and 2nd fastest times were se7ens. There were 8 se7ens there, and 7 of them are in the top 16 fastest road course times. Except for about 5 cars, it was all Cobras, GT40's and se7ens that were there. James Yale in the Daytona Coupe was the fastest street tired car there, and I was second fastest ( the S= street tires, PR = prepared tires ( slicks with grooves) and p=pro ( slicks)

email me with your address, and I'll send you a cd of a Run N Gun 2006 video that was shot by James Yale, the awesome cover car on the latest issue. The Daytona coupe has 605 HP, 589 lb ft of torque, and in the video, about 1/2 way through, I'm the seven in front of him, and he ain't passing me, until I wave him by at the beginning of the oval. You can show it to your Cobra buddies.

He and I were both in street tire class, and we spent two days slicing and dicing on the road course. There were several other Cobras in Street and we passed them all. There is no question that he is faster than me, but not ALL the time. I just couldn't hold him back on that long straight.

Can't help thinking that the guy driving the 7 wasn't getting the most from his car....am I the only one here who thinks the Caterham should have seriously left the bike behind?

My experience of riding and driving both vehicles tells me that the car will always have more grip and although the bike will be quicker in a straight line, the car should already be too far ahead, especially around a course as demanding as the Nordschleife....

The bike guys say the bike is only half trying http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/lol.gif

I don't ride a bike, so I can't comment, but I believe the fastest bikes run that track in the 7:50 range, and the fastest seven is in the 7:20 range.

7:20 would be impressive indeed, 23 seconds faster than a ZO6 and about the same as a Porsche Carrera GT. Wikipedia reports a Westfield Megabusa doing 7:50 and a Caterham R500 Superlight doing 7:55, which are extremely good times, especially on a car that is so top-speed challenged. I got the impression that the bike was videoing the 7 as a favor-it seemed to have no trouble closing at will on the straights and often was mid-range in the revs, rather than up higher where the power is.

I don't think that anyone intended this to be the best bike against the best 7, but it's pretty obvious to me that the guy on the bike backed off a number of times to avoid passing. I'm assuming the guy in the 7 never backed off since he was always in front.

It would be interesting to see a fast 7 with an experienced driver up against a current litre class bike with an experienced rider. The car would definitely have the advantage in the tight stuff but the bike should be guicker in the fast stuff. The Ring is such an interesting mix of tight and fast stuff that it would interesting to see.

One of these years I'm going to have to make back there with a decent car or bike. I was there many years ago with a pretty sad diesel Jetta. Would barely do 140 kph. Pretty hopeless.
