Croc
Has anyone been to the Old Bridge Raceway Park in Englishtown NJ? http://www.etownraceway.com/road_course.aspx The prices for getting on their road track look reasonable for a cheap track day. The track is short but it sounds interesting. Have not found a map of it yet but figured I would open this up for comments from others.
Boxologist
told ya its E-Town. Check it out google maps. u can see the track in its 'final' construction stages. http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w276/Xero187/Road%20Racing/englishtown-raceway.jpg No racing organization sanctions races at that track due to safety concerns with its design. Its barely more than a glorified kart track. Luckily we have cars slightly bigger than a kart. there are videos online of this track. NNJR-SCCA does use the roadcourse as part its autoX/Solo series. The next dates for autoX on the roadcourse is October 2nd & 16th Mike, please find out what kind of deal E-town is wanting for the track.
yellowss7
WoW that looks tight! Could be fun though. Doubt there would be any passing as it doesn't look too wide. Tom
Bster13
Can anyone compare it to Limerock? That place has no speakable run-off either.
Boxologist
LimeRock runs LMP cars. kart associations have turned away E-town. They never consulted anyone before breaking ground.
Bster13
Idiots... if kart associations turned them down, no way I'm running there. Seen too little runoff too many times get people hurt.
Croc
I figured there was a catch somewhere with this circuit - it looked like it was being shunned - and for a good reason it seems. I will check out prices and post them here later.
Boxologist
here is a sample video of what NNJR-SCCA does on the roadcourse. AutoX SCCA NJ Road Course May 9th 2009 Turbo Scion tC NT-01 on Vimeo
yellowss7
You weren't kidding about no runoff area. There was one turn there that if you missed you'd end up on the track as it was coming back the other way. Tom
Bster13
And hitting an EVO like mine! You weren't kidding about no runoff area. There was one turn there that if you missed you'd end up on the track as it was coming back the other way. Tom
Boxologist
it really appears that if the track was created 1.5x at its current size it would have been better off. the property they had to work with really limited them, i guess. doesn't mean we can't limit our own stupidity and make a go of it at 8/10ths for some fun if teh price and date right. Croc
Finally after much phone tagging, I reached Nick Goldman at Raceway Park (732-446-7800). A weekday all day event (Mon, Tues and Thurs) costs $2500 + $400 for EMS. A weekend event costs in the range of $6500 (subject to date) plus $400 EMS. The track takes 6 cars are any one time well spaced out. Nick said the surface is rough/bumpy in places and we should inspect the track in person (test drive it....he said he would unlock the track for us to check it) just to make sure we are comfortable using it with our cars. He said there have been no problems but recommends it anyway. I figure it cannot be any worse that the roads around NYC (NY/NJ/CT) and it is still safer there. Safety inspection is not quite the same as if it were an open track day - they can take into account that we are not running regular road cars plus we would be a private event. To make a booking requires 25% down and an agreed date. He said it is best to agree about 5 dates in advance and then compare it to his bookings register to find one or two that work. Some editorial comments from me: - $6500 for the weekend seems steep but Nick did note that they are always busy nearly every weekend. - For a weekday event the cost is pretty reasonable but it will be harder to draw people in - 10 people at $300 each - can we get that number of Sevens or "club" cars to justify a private event? - What is the right price for a track day and what is the sweet spot for number of cars/length of sessions? - I wonder if he would let us use the dragstrip on a weekday... - Yes the track is tight and but running at 8/10ths, less cars and with some common sense it could be a fun day. yellowss7
In my limited experience, (2 track days) the 25 minute sessions I did at NJMP and Barber MSP were more than enough for me. Depending on the heat level, and concentration level, personally, I found that I was ready to come in by the end of the 25 minutes. As for cost comparison, last year's Log event at Barber was $250 and the one I just did at NJMP was $300. 4 sessions at Barber and 5 at NJMP. Lunches were included at those prices too. If you had 10 to 15 cars you could do 3 groups of up to 5 cars at the price point equal to the above. Tom
Boxologist
consider offering 5-10 slots to another club or 2?
Croc
I think you are right. Maybe the LEO group for a few select people. Also in one of my "extended" 6 hour lunches with a client the other day he and I managed to bet each other that our respective "vehicles" will be faster. As he has a Triumph bike of some fuzzy spec (and he thinks I drive a fiberglass kit car powered by a Lada engine) then I have a way to even the odds in my direction by using this place... We may end up booking a few slots for this grudge match to take place. The moral of this story is never agree to a bet after sitting in the sun for a few hours drinking too many beers and margaritas. First action will be to inspect it the track - I am curious about how bumpy it is... I will have time in 2 weeks once I wrap up this weeks last work and survive Cambodia next week... Croc
I am out until late July. I am also out nearly all of September prowling in Spain and Portugal. October is LOG but we may be able to fit it in then.... Life is just so busy without a job! :jester:
