Eliminate Caterham spare tire?

Recommended Posts

What are my options to eliminate the spare tire and not have the carrier bracket sticking out? I'd like to know what others have done and a picture of the results if possible, including license plate and light. Thanks...

I don't carry a spare on the Birkin except on long distance trips to the track. The carrier bolts on, but I have only had one non deflating puncture in 28k miles.

I like the 10 foot length and no tyre look also.

Hi afs this is what i did to mount my number plate when I removed my spare of my Birkin, I now carry a can of Hoyts Tyre Weld which is a spare in a can.

Hope these pics help you out.

I'll stand up for the Seven spare...

I see the Seven spare tire as additional rear-end/fuel tank crash protecton (something you can't get in a can of Hoyt's, or whatever). Also, it gives the car a more balanced profile, and that "traditional" look, besides.

Having said that, I did cut off my Caterham license plate/spare tire bracket, so that I could mount my luggage-rack system (then I re-mounted the spare tire holder). I also trimmed the license-plate light bracket off the top of the tire holder for a cleaner look (and to accommodate my center luggage rack); I am using LED license-plate lights/bolts from Summit.

BTW, it is much cleaner and more square to cut the tire bracket support tubes with a pipe cutter, instead of a hacksaw (which never seems to follow the line you want it to...)

when redoing the Rotus I discovered that the whole tire carrier unbolts from two threaded stud pipes which stick out from the back about 6 inches. So ... two bolts and a electrical disconnect .. and my spare rack and license plate light are off.
